Re: Pongolle is class
Florent Sinama-Pongolle ended the 2005/06 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers whom he joined in January 2006.
He spent the majority of the 2004-05 season on the treatment table after injuring his knee in the Carling Cup semi-final win at Watford. It was an unfortunate blow for the striker, as he had previously inspired Liverpool to the last 16 of the Champions League with his display against Olympiacos. Coming off the bench he scored and played a major role in the 3-1 victory.
It was Gerard Houllier who secured the double transfers of whom he called the French gems, Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama Pongolle, when they arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2003.
The pair had previously both been on a season's loan at French side Le Havre, and Houllier's capture is a shrewd one as Le Tallec and Pongolle were in much demand throughout the football world.
Pongolle is an exciting young striker with blistering pace. He quickly became a favourite with the Anfield fans after scoring a fantastic goal at Anfield in a 3-1 win over Leeds.
His goalscoring exploits were very much in evidence in May 2001 when Pongolle scored six goals en-route to the final but France lost out to Spain 1-0 in the European U16 Championships in England.
There was better fortunes for Pongolle in September 2001 as played a major role in France winning the under-17 World Championships in Trinidad. Sinama-Pongolle won the golden ball for the tournament's best player and the golden shoe for top goalscorer with nine goals.
He set a new tournament record with hat-tricks against USA, Japan and a goal in the final against Nigeria.

£6m for Pongolle and Le Tallec was one of the best deals in Liverpools history.

In fairness, I'm not sure if we played that much upfront. Alot of it could have been down to appearences/success etc

It's only fair that we gave other teams a chance.
Pongolle is so talented that the FA saw it only fair to allow us to use him 5 times a season, otherwise we'd risk the league being unfair.
Everytime he plays, we have to PAY the opposition to go out onto the pitch. They're scared one of his shots might deflect off them, resulting in sure death. Such is the purity of his strikes.

Re: Pongolle is class
Pongolle is a keeper in my book.
Not a goalkeeper, a keeper as in a player to keep.
He has natural ability and pace, he's young still and will qualify as a home grown player in the CL.

Word.
I'd like him to stay. Rafa's systematically getting rid of all Houllier's signings that aren't first choice though. Even Hamman...
