The new season of America's football league starts tomorrow. The first set of fixtures are:

    Colorado vs. DC United
Real Salt Lake vs. FC Dallas
    Columbus vs. NY Red Bull
    Chicago vs. New England
    Chivas USA vs. Toronto FC
    Houston vs. LA Galaxy (Sunday)

I've never really followed the MLS before, but I might watch a few games whenever I get the chance this season. It'll get especially interesting when Beckham (and possibly Davids? ) joins in July.

I will be supporting the New York Red Bulls. Could you keep us updated on Waterreus?

Will do so, though don't expect too regular updates. And I'm sure Puro will help out too, seeing as New York is his team. They have Reyna this year as well as the ex-US national team coach Bruce Arena.

Another interesting transfer I just found out about is Freddy Adu to Real Salt Lake. Let's see if a change of team makes a difference, or he is just a normal player overhyped by Nike.

@Sparta: Waterreus starts off with a clean sheet.

    Scores:
    Colorado 2-1 DC United
Real Salt Lake 2-2 FC Dallas
    Columbus 0-0 NY Red Bull
    Chicago 1-0 New England
    Chivas USA 2-0 Toronto FC

The main match is going to be tomorrow, with defending champions Houston hosting a renovated Los Angeles Galaxy.

Kas, will you go to the stadium to see Beckham? I'm thinking about going to tell him welcome to the USA, and thank him for helping the sport become more popular.

I know he's probably the most overrated player in the history of the game, but so what. Beckham is adored by the kids, and he's doing something great for the sport here in the USA albeit he's getting a nice chunk of cash in the process. I'll remember Becks above all for trying to help "soccer" in the USA. <Ale>

@Puro, I don't think so, because I'm not near any of the MLS stadiums. If I happen to travel to a city where a match is going on then I might, but I won't be making specific plans to watch a game live.

I think he should be with LA by August 5th, but I don't know for sure...probably worth buying your tickets now because I heard Toronto FC sold out all its season tickets.

Shaka Hislop (not European but he's played in the Premiership) is the goalkeeper for FC Dallas.

And no doubt a few more past-it players will move to the MLS in the summer.

No idea tbh. I guess some of the US Internationals like Landon Donovan or Claudio Reyna would be among the best. I don't know any of the "hot prospects" or other big transfers though. This is the first time I really plan on occasionally following the season, so maybe in a few months I'll have a better idea.

Moreno is one of the best...Freddy Adu is obviously one of the big names aswell, he must be the "hot prospect".

    Player Goals
    Jason Kreis* 108
    Jaime Moreno* 105
    Ante Razov* 98
    Jeff Cunningham* 90

They must be decent aswell..top scorers in the league over the years.

Ok in terms of players playing in the MLS who have played in England there are:

Andy Welsh who has signed for Toronto from Sunderland and they alos have Jim Brennan who played for Norwich.

Stefani Miglioranzi a playmaker who was decent for Swindon is at Columbus Crew.

Jovan Kirovski ex Crystal Palace forward and Ex Man City winger Terry Cooke play for Colorado Rapids.

    Shaka Hislop is at Dallas.

Paul Dalglish (Kenny's son) is at Houston.

Whilst two ex Man City players Claudio Reyna and Ronald Waterreus have both joined New York, who also have Markus Schopp who played for Derby.

So overall there are quite a few names there and given there are the likes of Landon Donavon, Eddie Pope, Freddy Adu, Eddie Johnson and other American internationals playing in the MLS the leagues general quality is on the up.

There's also a winger called Santino Quaranta who plays for LA Galaxy. The only time I've watched him was a couple of years ago, and he had some talent but was inconsistent and couldn't make good decisions when he had the ball.

I wonder if he's improved by now, because he was certainly on track to be a top player for the US national team.

Final score 0-0 between Houston and LA. That's the problem with the MLS, there's a lack of real individual talent, so a lot of teams just cancel each other out and the games are low scoring and slow-paced.

Yeah he is a Real Salt Lake player now.

Their transfer system is much different to ours, instead of straight money transactions they have "consideration" packages. I am no expert on it, so if you have time it may be worth looking into for a few minutes.

Its why when Fulham bought Brain McBride, thye didn't pay the actual club. They paid the MLS instead.
