it doesn't look 80% full, though, although the side we can't see is probably completely full.

Re: UEFA Cup Semi-finals
Is it just not really a football friendly city then?
I suppose its the same with Blackburn - they hold 33,000 but average 17,000, though in the UEFA cup they let children go in for free

Re: UEFA Cup Semi-finals
Its always the way in Spain - that the camera is in the tribuna, which is always full - especially for big matches. Is it not next season but the season after that they move into their new stadium, hopefully it will be a more modest capacity - as the Montjuic is hardly a stadium fit for football yet alone crowds of 20,000 each week.

in Spain many people are armchair fans or can't afford the ticket prices.
and of course Espanyol is only the second team of the city...

+ the Spanish bar culture onto that. The Spanish don;t mind watching the game in a bar with plenty of drinks - it is cheaper than the match tickets. Plus - unlike in England a fans support is not necessarily gaged quite as much on how many games they attend.

back to the football.
Werder taking control of the game away from home. Espanyol look edgy.

Re: UEFA Cup Semi-finals
They used to get good attendances in their old stadium, most of the pericos hate the olimpic because of the running tracks. When they move to their new stadium they will get better attendances. They also have to compete with Barça for fanbase.
And Barcelona is a footbal friendly city, Barça get a higher average attendance than the Emirates' capacity

Nah - the main stand is but the one with the camera on is pretty empty. I'd say its 75% capacity

Re: UEFA Cup Semi-finals
They get around 16,000 week in week out in La Liga - but I would have thought it would be full for this! They usually get 20,000 for the games against Barca and Madrid! Very surprised.

Rufete has been a quality buy this season for Espanyol. Making the difference again so far in the team.

we're depending on you, Tweeds, to report on the other game. No one else about and I don't want to keep switching between channels 3 and 6.

I'm on the job. Sevilla started the best but Osasuna are edging into the game though so far have resorted to long distance shots
