Have you ever managed to NOT put a Dutchy in any of these lists?
Egg on the face, none are Dutch.

There are a lot of full backs who could do that if they were so indulged by their coach that they were allowed to go wherever they want without any regard for defensive responsibilities.
Maicon is a better crosser than Alves IMO - I mean proper Beckham style crosses as opposed to getting to the by line and pulling the ball back across the floor.
Alves is so indulged by Sevilla that he even takes set pieces despite being one of the worst dead-ball players in the game (meanwhile the best free-kick taker in the world sits on the bench )
Maicon is also physically a lot stronger - you will see the benefit of this when the winger knocks it past you and you get your body betwen the player and ball and just hold him off.

He's not even in the top 5 left backs in the premiership and for me is third choice left back at United behind Evra and Silvestre

Defensively above avarege, offensively grossly overated, a c**t and a beleiver of his ow greatness, and cannot make a decent cross to save his life.
How is he so highly rated? Honestly. When its perfectly arguable that he isn't even the best lefttback at Chelsea.
exactly what i have been saying. he is great but he is not a normal fullback. i doubt liverpool will much freedom anyway and will never let him run the football instead of gerrard or xabi. barca is the same since they have so many players that want the ball. at Real i actually think he would be allowed to run things since we play a similar formation to sevilla but more defensive though. so i cant really see him showing the same at another place.Messiah wrote:Phil Ball explains Alves role best and the problem other teams might find if they shouls sign him.
Alvés has re-defined the concept of 'defender', and never before in the history of the game has the whole strategy of a team been based around the attacking prowess of its right full-back.
That's the problem for the team that bags him. Will they be able to get the same out of him? Will he be given the same freedom? A unique player - not half as anarchic as he looks - who has lit up La Liga again this season.
