Sunderland Keane On Double Swoop Empty Sunderland Keane On Double Swoop

Post by Machiavel Sun Jun 24, 2007 4:11 pm

Sunderland are reportedly set to make another plunge into the summer transfer market with a double swoop for Leroy Lita and Scott Carson.

Black Cats chief Roy Keane has already bolstered his squad with the signing of defender Greg Halford and has now apparently identified a new goalkeeper and a striker as top of his target list.

Reading hitman Lita has improved his stock considerably with his performances for England's Under-21s in Holland were he netted three times for Stuart Pearce's charges.

The Royals are desperate to hold on to the former Bristol City hitman, who would command a fee of around £5million, but Keane could face competition from Portsmouth.

Keane is also aware of his need to add a senior keeper to his squad with only Darren Ward and Marton Fulop on the books.

And Liverpool's Carson, 21, another member of England's Under-21 side, is seen as the ideal man to build a successful side around.

The former Leeds keeper has been told he is in Rafael Benitez's plans, but with Jose Reina the undisputed number one at Anfield he may move on.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Nugent has also spoken to Roy Keane this past week ..

So Lita is valued £2m under Nugent...what a load of bollocks. Dont get me wrong £5m is fair value for Lita but Nugent is over valued. Lita has already proveb he has ability to do it in EPL, Nugent hasnt shown f@ck all but is valued more.

TBH I dont know why Lita would leave Reading for Sunderland .

    Lita>>Nugent IMO.

He'd be a superb buy for someone like Sunderland - he seems to always give 100% so Keane is sure to be a fan

Depends who the other team in for him is, if its West Ham then he might go to sunderland for regualr football and to stay in the north. BUT i think Everton will go for him and he will go there.

    3 reasons -

    - money, Sunderland seem to have a fair wad of cash
    - first team football every week
    - hype, Sunderland seem to have the press's attention (partly due to it making for a good story about Roy Keane)

According to the AA's route planner, it's 123.3 miles from stadium to stadium.

Est journey time is 2h 32 minutes.

Nugent would choose Everton given the choice, it mainly hinges around whether Everton will choose Nugent.

Otherwise I would expect him to move to Sunderland

I believe they have signed Russel Anderson, who's perhaps the most consistent defender in Scotland.

Keane's obviously putting the knowledge he gathered in Scotland to good use.

    I noticed that too - £1m.

Haven't heard of him to be honest, what are his strengths/weaknesses?

I heard he donated his signing on fee to the Aberdeen academy, what a nice gesture that was.

He's pretty versatile, comfortable in the fullback positions in addition to his natural CB position.

He's a good captain who works hard for his team. He wins headers, blocks shots, and tackles aggressively. His distribution and composure aren't great, however.

His good performances have been really consistent for the past decade.

He should probably be the Scotland captain.
