JAGS DEAL CLOSE FOR TOFFEES Empty JAGS DEAL CLOSE FOR TOFFEES

Post by DS Wed Jul 04, 2007 2:04 pm

Everton are believed to be on the brink of
completing the £4million signing of Phil Jagielka from Sheffield United
    on Wednesday.
The Merseysiders have moved quickly following the Blades'
confirmation as a Championship club after their failed arbitration bid
to make the Premier League reconsider the Carlos Tevez case.
That relegation triggered a clause in Jagielka's contract that means he can leave for around £4million.
The Toffees have now agreed a deal with United for the England B
international, and he was expected at Goodison Park on Wednesday
    afternoon after agreeing personal terms.
Jagielka was on Everton's books as a schoolboy but was released
a decade ago and had been with Sheffield United ever since. In total,
he has made 287 appearances for the Bramall Lane club, scoring 22
    goals.
Everton boss David Moyes wants the deal concluded quickly, so
that Jagielka can join his new team-mates at their St Andrews training
camp in Scotland before the end of the week.

Yes he is a good player, I would rate him on the same level as Barton and Reo-Coker, the only difference is that he doesn't come with the baggage.

How will he fit into the team? Arteta and Cahill have signed new deals.

    Carsley replacement.

Guess he needs a big squad with UEFA football.

    He is a midfielder.

    @ Parky

I forgot about Carsley, hopefully Everton last longer in Europe this year.

Jagielka can play CM, DM and CB as well as right back - his best position and the position he'll play at everton is DM.

    He'll replace Carsley.

Its a good signing IMO, Carsley was decent and did the job but they needed improving that position to retain a UEFA spot and also challenge in the UEFA competition

DM, RM, RB, CB - he's Mr Versatile. He's a decent player but shouldn't be a starter for a european contender. Evertons lack of ambition this summer has been shocking, they've been linked to medicore player after medicore player. ok

They spent big last Summer, so there maybe isn't to much of a need to throw money a every player on the market.

Looking at their squad, there's no position screaming out for improvement, maybe a winger and a centre back (if Lescott is to play left back) but thats about it

They need a striker and a winger IMO.

They got Vaughan and Anichbe(Sp?) who got potential and Beatie (he's gone though) and usually play 1 upfront so dont think striker is that necessary.

A left back as well so Lescott can play centre back.

Not a big fan of Yobo or Stubbs to be honest.
