Everton are believed to be on the brink of
completing the £4million signing of Phil Jagielka from Sheffield United
on Wednesday.
The Merseysiders have moved quickly following the Blades'
confirmation as a Championship club after their failed arbitration bid
to make the Premier League reconsider the Carlos Tevez case.
That relegation triggered a clause in Jagielka's contract that means he can leave for around £4million.
The Toffees have now agreed a deal with United for the England B
international, and he was expected at Goodison Park on Wednesday
afternoon after agreeing personal terms.
Jagielka was on Everton's books as a schoolboy but was released
a decade ago and had been with Sheffield United ever since. In total,
he has made 287 appearances for the Bramall Lane club, scoring 22
goals.
Everton boss David Moyes wants the deal concluded quickly, so
that Jagielka can join his new team-mates at their St Andrews training
camp in Scotland before the end of the week.
