Sutton was an excellent player in the SPL. Whether it was Larsson or Hartson, Sutton formed partnerships with these strikers that made SPL defenders whimper back to their dressing rooms. In Europe, too, Sutton proved that he was a good player. He scored important goals against Ajax and Juventus, in addition to unnerving opposition defenders.

His straightforwardness was funny at times.

Interviewer: ‘Just what was it that enabled Celtic to win the league?’

Sutton: *Frowns* ‘We won more points than anybody else.’

Great player (not quite Teddy Sheringham but close) in his day, nice chap too. Will be sadly missed. Until he gets the inevitable job on MOTD2.

Good player and deserved his successes at Blackburn and Celtic.

My Sports teacher always used to remind me that Sutton was the most versitile footballer out there. He can play striker, midfield and defence with ease. Also he played in goal a few times at Norwich City!

I’ve read that a lot of Celtic supporters found him unapproachable owing to his aloof and curt manner.

On Celtic forums. The next time I see one, I'll paste it onto this board.

Ps I've seen Celtic fans on the same forums - and probably the same topic - mention that Henrik Larsson had a very poor attitude towards some Celtic fans at the start of his career at Parkhead.

Being aloof doesnt make him a c*nt.

It just means that rather than being like most professional footballer who claimed they were ok with signing autographs, he wanted to keep his life private.

    I say fair enough.

    Ryan Giggs testimonial?

I remember he started a right scene as he pushed Gary Neville.
