DAVID NUGENT has agreed to join Pompey.
The England international will complete his £6m move to Fratton Park tomorrow if he passes a medical as expected.
The 22-year-old will sign a four-year deal and become Harry Redknapp's sixth signing of the summer.
Nugent was today at Preston's Springfield training ground saying goodbye to his team-mates.
The
loose ends of his move to the Premiership were sorted yesterday when he
met with Pompey, after pulling out of training with the Lancashire side.
Redknapp
was impressed with what the player had to say when they held their
first meeting last week and talks went smoothly in their final
get-together.
Nugent has taken his time to weigh up his options with a year left on his contract at Deepdale.
The move looked to be turning into a protracted affair as the player bided his time.
But
it has now been wrapped up and is another statement of intent from
Pompey as they looked to build on last season's ninth-placed finish.
It also ends the Blues' desperate search for a striker to spearhead the new campaign.
Sunderland, Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa have all been linked with the former Bury man.
Roy
Keane pulled out of the race last week after Pompey hit the front in
the race for his signature – and Redknapp now has his man.
Nugent
will be expected to link up with his new team-mates at their Woodbury
Park base in the west country ahead of this weekend's opening
pre-season friendly with Yeovil.
And the hot prospect will travel with the rest of the squad as they jet off to Hong Kong for the Asia Cup next week.
Nugent follows Sylvain Distin, Hermann Hreidarsson, Sulley Muntari, Martin Cranie and Arnold Mvuemba into the club.

Pompey are close to finalising their move for John Utaka.
Utaka
could follow David Nugent through the door at Fratton Park this week
after the Blues upped their bid to £7m for the Nigerian international.
Harry Redknapp is waiting on the 25-year-old to decide if he will move to England.
Redknapp plans to use the Rennes man mainly as a winger, although he can also play as a striker.
But Pompey are likely to be priced out of a move for Fredi Kanoute, with Sevilla slapping a £10m price tag on him.
Peter Storrie had met Kanoute's representatives in Paris to discuss a move.
