So the strike force for next season will be Bent, Keane and Defoe?

Could be worse. Alan Smith could be in there.

Maybe Berbatov can make Bent look World Class next season.
I like Dofoe as a player but the plus side with Bent is that he can play upfront on his own.
So whats next for Dofoe, Villa or Portsmouth?

I'll give you to the start of 2008 before you realise Bent's a good player and better than Defoe.

Skysports just said that the deal isn't as close to being concluded as being reported by other sources (BBC) but that the deal should be signed tomorrow at the latest. They are very close to agreeing the transfer fee, and presumably personal terms are a formality at the moment. Charlton seem to be holding out for as much as possible. They're unwilling to back down from their demands of £16m but the fee can be expected to be between £15-16m.

I think Bent is good goal scorer, playing with better players might even make him better. Technically i think Dofoe is the better player.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but Bent is very underrated on this board.
He isn't amazing technically but he puts the ball in the back of the net - great anticipation, pace, shooting and heading ability.
Imagine a player in champo with 20 in their finishing, anticipation, composure, off the ball, acceleration, pace and heading stats and this is what you potentially have with Bent. He can score 20 goals a season for Spurs I reckon
Its not all about on the ball technique sometimes

Playing in Spurs team with Berbatov for a partner he'll score bucket loads.
He's just got to get past Robbie Keane first.

Re: Darren Bent agrees to join Spurs...
In financial terms this is a great deal for Charlton. Didn't they only pay £2.5-3m for him two years ago. If they make a profit of £12m+ then that is a great return.

Re: Darren Bent agrees to join Spurs...
He is a good striker but i think £15m is over the odds, still if he get the goals that fire Spurs into Champs League the fee will seem worth it.
Mido is obviously going to leave this summer but now the question is will Defoe leave ? i cant see him staying as 4th choice but will Jol want to sell and only have 3 strikers ?

Not sure how much Ipswich will get, i think they might have a 25% sell on fee. Still Charlton have done very well out of the deal and im sure Pardew will have £5/6m to spend now.

Re: Darren Bent agrees to join Spurs...
Berbatov, Keane and Bent, Mido/Defoe.
That's almost as good as any striker force in the league imo.
Beats Rooney, Saha(injured), Smith, Rossi
Beats Kuyt, Crouch, Bellamy, Vorinin
Beats RVP, Adeboyor, Walcott, Bentender
Maybe just behind Drogba, Sheva, Pizarro, Kalou.

Re: Darren Bent agrees to join Spurs...
I do think he's a good addition to Spurs, even at the expense of Defoe - however as a value buy the deal's poor to awful.
For 16m they are paying way too much for a slight improvement in an area they don't really have problems with.
For 16m they could get more players in more urgent positions where the the team could improve leaps and bounds.
Not to mention that Spurs are breaking their transfer record on a player that can only give them an edge in the league but none whatsoever outside of it.
Perhaps they really wanted Bent in their pursuit of as many English internationals as possible. If that's so, don't expect Robbo to move anytime soon.
All in all, for value, a poor buy.

Re: Darren Bent agrees to join Spurs...
I agree with DD. Bent could do well, but this isn't the most logical signing. They already have two good strikers and a capable back up player, yet they're spending an awful lot of money on another striker, even though there are other areas of the squad that are more in need of investment.
They do have a very strong forward line but it will make little difference if they don't strengthen other areas of the squad.

I agree with the logic signing part - £16m spread on a goalkeeper and left winger would have been far more worthwhile, but Jol believes Robbo to be good enough

People should give up with the Robinson stuff.
Spurs are obviously not going to replace him.
All they need now is a left midfielder.

Re: Darren Bent agrees to join Spurs...
Ahh well, got to accept it and move on. An addition to our squad which we didn't need. Jol's facination of buying a striker every summer continues...
On the plus side, he is proven in the prem and has a decent scoring record and would be a interesting partnership with Berby upfront...may add a new dimension upfront, someone different to the strikers we've currently got at the mo...
Down side, 15 million and maybe the departure of defoe...Just hope Jol realises the other required additions we need if we have any chance of breaking the top 4 and next season is our best chance if ever the was one....

I don't get it - Jol and everybody else at the guy clearly rate the guy highly. Its like Lampard at Chelsea; unless he leaves, he'll be a starter next season.
Re transfers, don't Spurs also need a CB?

They've signed a French under 21 centre back. Kaboul I think.
Also Robinson isn't nearly as bad as being made out.

Re: Darren Bent agrees to join Spurs...
The Kaboul deal isn't complete yet, but I don't think there's much doubt about it.
New left winger to play ahead of Bale, cut loose a couple of squad players who are going nowhere (preferably some of the vast number of central midfielders Spurs have) and Spuds will be looking strong.
Seriously, you lot just wait for Bale to find his feet - you are going to be very impressed with this lad, I reckon. Forget Walcott...

He ain't a bad keeper, just a adequet keeper. Maybe he can iron out the mistakes he constantly does, notably his position...he is young after all....
Maybe buying a decent number 2 keeper would give him a kick up the backside, coz we all know he WONT be sold....so we just need him to develop more.....hopefully he realises the mistakes he makes, he seems inteligent enough...

The Bale signing Iam extremly happy with, Kaboul from what I've seen is a decent buy, looks better than Dawson...
The summer's still young and I am sure we will buy a left winger and a few defensive cover and we should be complete, just hope we didn't spend all our money on Bent, hence my displeasure with regards to that signing...

Yes he is... or perhaps not as bad, just not good enough. He should be playing for the teams 16th-20th in the league not for the 5th that wants to challenge the established top 4.Parks lives wrote:Also Robinson isn't nearly as bad as being made out.
Last year he was among the three-four worst keepers in the prem (Green, Carrol worse, on the same level as Paddy Kenny).
To keep it short and offer a different perspective on the well known failings of Robinson (crosses, long shots, set pieces, shaky etc), in the top 7 the keepers are supposed to at least win the their team 1 point the entire season. This cannot be said about Robbo, nor can be counted on to.

Its not as though we don't watch any championship games saints saw southampton live twice last year as well with my mate and I am very impressed by him - definately at the highest rung of potential ability and for a British player his attacking ability is astonishing.
He'll fit very nicely into Spurs' system
