    1-1

Schweinsteiger equalises. Lahm picked out Klose with a cross, and Klose's powerful header was parried up in the air by Wiese, and Schweinsteiger headed in the rebound.

    Bremen 1-2 Bayern

Altintop scores with a stunning left foot shot into the top corner of the net from long range.

This has been a good game so far, definite edge to it at the moment.

    -----------

    1-3

Ribery scores the third. A good low cross was missed by two defenders and Schweinsteiger but dropped to Ribery who fired low into the corner.

I've got to say, this looks ominous for the rest of the sides in Germany. Munich are gelling quickly and look good. It is still pre-season though, and Bremen do have a weakened side out, but Bayern are looking good.

Werder Bremen 1-4 Bayern Munich FT

Bayern were far superior and had too much quality for an under-strength Bremen side. Ribery and Schweinsteiger looked very good and linked up well, and Jansen got forward well down the flank.

Such a relief to see Bayern play good football again. Altintop's goal was a stunner. Our midfield looked really strong- defensively and offensively. Hope they can keep it up and there won't be any more injuries.

I agree. Playing with three attacking players in Ribery, Schweinsteiger and Altintop worked really well. They got in dangerous areas and linked up really well. It was good to see the fullbacks getting forward and supporting the attack as well. An impressive performance all round from Bayern.

I wonder how good Bayern will look playing 4-4-2 with Toni and Klose upfront.

The 4-2-3-1 formation really worked well today but Bremen were missing Naldo, Diego and Carlos Alberto.

Yes, by far means this is true. With that trio in Bremen during this game It could have been a pretty matched up game.

I want to see a 3-4-3 or some Podolski and Klose upfront.

Blut already mentioned his worries : so far they've only lost players without getting serious alternatives.

I'm still confident that Schaaf & co will have a transfer lined up...but I too am getting worried. If Werder don't sign a good striker I can't see them competing for the title and that would be a real loss for the Bundesliga and everyone who watches it...

Full strength team? Laughing We wish! We've got 14 players who are NOT injured and from what I can see, we don't have many alternatives in midfield, especially now that Chris Gentner finally got loaned out.

The line-up from yesterday's 0-0 test match draw with Kaiserslautern, just as some kind of reference:
VfB Stuttgart: Raphael Schäfer - Roberto Hilbert, Fernando Meira, Marco Pischorn, Arthur Boka - Christian Gentner (46. Andreas Beck), Silvio Meissner (62. Georges Mandjeck), Antonio da Silva - Cacau (62. Manuel Fischer), Mario Gomez (46. Ewerthon), Alexander Farnerud

A good chance for the squad players to get some first team experience then!

How seriously do teams take the Ligapokal? Will Stuttgart try to put out a competitive team or will they write the game against Bayern off and just concentrate on getting players back to fitness?

And for Veh to test out alternatives for the start of the season.

From my POV, it's more of a Mickey Mouse competition--too early in the new season for the teams to play truly decent football, and, as you said: It's more about testing out players and tactics.

Doesn't mean there are no grudge matches, though, or that there is no competitive spirit. The Stuttgart--Schalke game from two years ago was vicious (ended with Kuranyi, who'd left the VfB for Gazprom that summer, being sent off for hacking down a former colleague and Hitzlsperger getting spat on by Lincoln, if I remember correctly).

That's what I was thinking if this format was implemented here in England. The Community Shield is normally rather sedate in pace, but there is always an edge because the teams involved are fierce rivals. It would be even worse with five teams involved.

Slightly off topic but Skysports are saying that Stuttgart are looking to sign Ciprian Marica from Shakhtar Donetsk. Presumably this news has been out for a while in Germany, but does it look like happening? Does anyone know how good he is?

The thread about him on one of the Stuttgart boards is spanning 38 pages at present, so I'd wager, there is some substance to the rumour. Wink Seriously, though, from what people are saying, he definitely wants to join Stuttgart and already asked Donezk to go easy on him in a test match (i.e. to leave him on the bench), apparently. Shakhtar want 6 Mio and Stuttgart are only willing to pay 4 Mio, according to an article someone translated on transfermarkt.de.

And sadly enough, I have no idea who he is and whether he'd be a good back up for Cacau and Mario Gomez. Suspect

Sky had quotes from Veh saying that you were in negotiations with him so that normally is a good sign that there is substance to the speculation.

The Independent are saying that Man City are after him but that they are looking at a one year loan followed by the option to sign him for £8m. If you offer him a permanent deal he would probably prefer that. He is only a young player and there were rumours that Roma and Inter were after him, so that and the fact that he is playing international football at 21 suggest that he is a talented player.
