Rossi spent time on loan at Newcastle and Parma last season
Manchester United have sold striker Giuseppe Rossi to Spanish side Villarreal for an undisclosed fee.

The six-year deal is subject to the 20-year-old American-born Italian passing a medical.

Rossi was loaned to Newcastle last season and then to Parma, where he scored nine goals in 19 matches.

Villarreal were looking for a new striker after allowing Diego Forlan, another ex-United player, to join Atletico Madrid for £14m.

I predict a sarcy comment from Kimbol with in the hour.

Although Tevez > Rossi, but Rossi is 3 years younger and we still don't know if we will sign Tevez.

SkySports say the fee is around £6.7m.

One of the clubs supposedly interested in Smith sent a text.

Very sad day for the Premiership when a player as good as Rossi clearly is cannot make it at a big club almost entirely because of his lack of height and bulk.

He'll rip La Liga a new asshole, I predict, and in five years time will be considered one of the best strikers around.

Reds can re-sign Rossi

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that United inserted a clause in Giuseppe Rossi's contract which would allow the Reds to buy the striker back from Villarreal.

The Italian Under-21 international had numerous meetings about his future this summer and was told that he would be given opportunities at Old Trafford, but the former Parma youngster wanted regular first-team football.

"We had several meetings with Giuseppe to convince him that he would get plenty of football here, but that he may have to be a bit patient," explained the boss. "But he wanted to have a go at first-team football, so it was a difficult decision."

Rossi arrived as a highly-rated prospect in 2004, and after impressing in United's reserves he went on to score four goals in 14 first-team appearances for the Reds.

Last season he went in search of regular top-level football on loan with Newcastle and Parma. He stood out in Serie A, helping his former club avoid relegation, and he had been expected to return to Old Trafford this season. But he leaves on good terms and in the knowledge that United will keep close tabs on his progress in La Liga.

"We wish him well, he is a good lad," added Sir Alex. "He has always been a good professional. He's going to a good club. We sold Diego Forlan to Villarreal and he recently left for Atletico Madrid. It's a well-run club with good ambitions.

"I know he'll do well. We've got a clause in his contract where he could come back to us at some point. We are covering ourselves in every way."

I hope Riquelme is still a Villarreal player next season, then Rossi can kick some serious ass in La Liga.

They've got some very good attacking players already. I'll certainly be catching a few games.

With Nihat and Pires there as well, he could well be an instant hit. Its still early days though and they may well bring in another striker.

Madness, absolute lunacy!!! Why would Man Utd sell such an amazing player when they are in the market for a striker????????? Is Fergie going senile?! It's not like he's had trouble spotting talent in the past. This makes no sense on so many levels.






I hope this isn't supposed to be Forlans replacement.

Nihat, Pires, Rossi & one other should make a very good front 4. Especially for a team outside the top 4.

It's good that Villarreal have got UEFA cup football as well.

Villarreal will be a good team to watch next season in La Liga.

I think Rossi could match Michael Owen's 13 goals in La Liga for Real Madrid, that is if he is a first team starter straight away.
