Post by Batman Wed Aug 01, 2007 12:12 pm

Fiorentina striker Valeri Bojinov has reportedly joined Manchester City in a deal worth around £5m.

The Bulgarian hitman has been unsettled since the arrival of Christian Vieri at the Stadio Artemio Franchi which left him unlikely to make many appearances in the coming campaign.

Ex-Lazio boss Sven Goran Eriksson’s raid on Serie A continues having already signed Rolando Bianchi from Reggina this summer and reportedly tabled an offer for Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini.

It is believed that the Sky Blues have upped their offer by around £1m to reach an agreement with the Viola with personal terms still being finalised.

are we just making up the news these days?

I would have believed you if you'd thrown in the ever favourite decimal fee. £5.2m seems much more believable.

    The Sun say:
MANCHESTER CITY are closing in on a £5.75million move for Fiorentina ace Valeri Bojinov.

They're also after Garrido of Real Sociedad, a young left-back who came through their academy. Not sure how good he is.

If depends - if it's the Bonjinov we saw at Lecce and his 1st season for the Viola. Since then his rep has taken a dive - at least at Club level, IMO.

Great price for the potential player that his fans know he can be.

Why are so many people saying this is a terrific signing?!

He has potential but has often flattered to deceive and aside from half a season at Lecce, his goals tally is terrible!

I know he's young but still I think its a strange signing. He certanily shouldn't be a starter.

He's a real talent and certainly was fantastic at Lecce, i think he'll do well in the Premiership - certainly a player with bags of potential.

He isn't as quick as Rooney and doesn't have the same appreciation of team-mates but he is more accurate and a lot more two-footed.

Always flattered to deceive for me, had a great half season in a uber attacking Lecce side, had an inconsistent season at the Viola and didn't manage ten goals and then was a support striker in a Serie B side and managed just 5 starts!

He's got potential but should never be a starter for Citeh

Same reason I've heard recently that Van Persie 'can only get better' and will 'be better than Scholes this season' and that Arsenal 'still have an outside chance of the title' and Hleb is 'dreaming of scoring 10 goals this year'.

i.e. because people believe a lot of bullshit, because people are stupid...

I didn't say that you did.

I said Hleb would get about 5 goals in all comps and I certainly didn't say the other two things.

Hleb's scoring record suggests he'll get between 0 and 3 goals this season.

Actually, I did say we'd have an outside chance of the title, because its true ok

Not according to someone who has achieved FAR more than you have in the football industry.

If Arsenal win the league this season then I swear, I will never post a pejorative post about them again...

There have been an equal number of football industry men saying that we do in fact have a chance of winning the title this season. We're certainly not favourites but few put Man Utd as favourites at the start of last season

To be honest, given your current squad, it would be Wenger's greatest achievement.

There have been an equal number of football industry men saying that we do in fact have a chance of winning the title this season.

    Aye, I know.

We're certainly not favourites but few put Man Utd as favourites at the start of last season

That's because they failed to realise that Man U had managed to finish 2nd the season before despite losing their entire first choice central midfield to injury for at least half the season.

Still, best of luck to your lot this year. And good to see you back here.

No one could have predicted the return to top form of Scholes and Giggs and the massive improvement of Ronaldo though. Also Evra hadn't looked too hot towards the end of the 05-06 season and many expected Heinze to be the first choice left back. The loss of RVN also looked significant, on paper at least. I think I had them down for third after I'd been sold the liverpool hype by Obi

Tweedle wrote:No one could have predicted the return to top form of Scholes and Giggs and the massive improvement of Ronaldo though.

Firstly, Ronaldo played as well as he did last season for the six months prior to that. Secondly, I myself predicted that Scholes would have a good season. And Giggs was poor for much of last season, and played no great role in winning the league.

Also Evra hadn't looked too hot towards the end of the 05-06 season and many expected Heinze to be the first choice left back.

But had been brilliant for four seasons for Monaco, particularly in the CL.

The loss of RVN also looked significant, on paper at least.

Man U fans had been saying for ages that apart from goals he contributes nothing.

I think I had them down for third after I'd been sold the liverpool hype by Obi

Which only goes to show how accurate your predictions are...

Be totally honest now - hand on heart have you ever seen him play ?

No one can deny that his attitude has let him down over the last couple of years and that he is seen as a troublemaker but no one who has watched him play could doubt that, in terms of ability/attributes, he is very special.

He may not come good this year or even next but when he puts it together £5m will be laughable.

Yes I've seen him play! Though not since he's been at Juve.

Do Man City still have Vassell? They have 5 strikers don't they?

To be honest, he's probably better suited to partner Bianci than any of the rest, but it looked like Man City were going to get Castillo to partner bianchi: Bojinov is no Castillo
