The Pato tranfer Empty The Pato tranfer

Post by Torrente Wed Aug 01, 2007 12:26 pm

According to reports, Milan, Madrid and Chelsea are the front runners for his signing. Supposedly, if a club pays Inter 22 million Euros they will sell it to them. His agent claimed that he wanted to play in Real Madrid while Milan sent Leonardo to negotiate with him. Realistically, it seems unlikely he would choose Chelsea over Madrid and Milan for obvious reasons.

So who will get his signing and is this kid worth the hype and money? I haven't seen him play enough times to really formulate an opinion. There are also question marks about whether he should go to a big team on such an early age. Some reports claim Madrid's intention is to buy him and loan him to Inter for one or 2 seasons to let him develop, which would seem like a very good move IMO.

I hear he is a player in a similar mould to Kaka, unfortunately I haven't seen him play. What do you think?

I haven't seen him play enough to know how good he is at the moment. I saw him in a couple of under-20 WC games and I was impressed, though not really blown away by him.

I'm a bit divided on this at the moment. 22 million is definitely too much, but if he turns out to be a great star he could be worth it in the long run. Nobody in Madrid is regretting the 25 million we spent on Ramos the same way no one in Manchester in regretting the 18 million spent on Ronaldo. We had a chance to buy Kaka for 8 million several years ago but Florentino didn't want to pay that. Now we have Calderon making bids like maniac for him.

In this way buying stars when they're young even if you're seemingly being ripped off at the time can pay off. But if they flop it's a whole different story.

This guy is supposed to be the next Romario, not Kaka, because he's more of an out and out striker. I've seen him a few times, and he's definitely very very talented. 22 million is a lot, but I think it'll pay off in the long run.

I hear Pato is the new Ronaldo(R9), they say Pato is a better headerer of the ball than Ronaldo.

    Aguero is the new Romario.

    Really ?

Saw a extended interview with him , he looks up to Ronaldinho even though many say he is like Kaka .. which i must admit he does remind me off .. he can still develop and improve. He wants to move to Europe.

    Real Madrid must sign him
    AC Milan will sign him

Leonardo i hear has been in Brazil trying to get his signature

I really don't want us to sign him. 22 Million Euros?! Thats way to expensive for a "kid". He's my age, and granted I'm probably not as good (argentine wanker), we shouldn't be forking that much out on a kid with this much hype.

From what I've seen he definitely plays further forward than Kaka. But I've only watched him a few times in the U-20 WC.

Signing Pato now would be a disaster when there are so many areas of the squad that need to be addressed first.

Also, there is an underlying problem which is that our scouting system is terrible. When Valdano was here, we were watching relatively unknown talents all of the time (Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Quaresma to name a few). Of course back then Florentino was not interested in signing them, even on the cheap.

Now we just latch onto players that have already had their "coming out" party, so-to-speak. And of course, by this time, the fees are already elevated. Even what we paid for Gago and Higuain was too much, even though I think they'll both turn out to be excellent players (and are already very good).

Can you stop putting words into my mouth? It's too early to say something like that. If you prove that I said that Pato is going to be better than the player of the decade, I will change my name to Ronaldo9. Laughing

Pato buyout cause is US$ 20m. I definitely think that he is worth it, but IMO he shouldn't move to Madrid or Chelsea because he wouldn't get many chances there, Drogba and RVN did a very good job last season and he wouldn't play too much. Milan would be a better choice.

Pato is not similar to Kaká, they play in different positions. Pato is a striker.

I think something similar is in the pipeline. FIFA plans to stop players under 18 leaving their country. (I think it is Article 19.)

What are they calling it, the "anti-Wenger" law? If they make it that a player can't be under 20 before leaving his country, Wenger will probably blow his brains out.
