Inter take Old Trafford Empty Inter take Old Trafford

Post by bluenine Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:53 am

Its only a friendly, does not mean anything. Just a coupla points:
    - good to see Suazo doing so well for Inter, good buy
    - Ibra is getting back into groove immediately after his operation, the most important info for all nerazzurri
    - Adriano, at least he finally found the net - hope it gives him confidence Doh

    Friendlies: Inter take Old Trafford
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter have stunned Manchester United with a 3-2 victory at Old Trafford to take the Pirelli Cup! The Nerazzurri have treated their English tour as an exercise in gaining match fitness and lost both games to Valencia and Arsenal in the Emirates Cup this weekend.

Despite being a month off the start of their domestic season, Roberto Mancini’s men had the better of the game and took the trophy. Wayne Rooney had given Manchester United the lead on the counter-attack sparked by Cristiano Ronaldo and was left unmarked to fire in an angled drive after 17 minutes.

Inter did not wait around and struck back almost immediately through summer signing David Suazo, who had also scored their only goal in London. Luis Figo’s cross was held up by Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the former Cagliari hitman to strike from close range.

Ibrahimovic has only played brief periods in this pre-season schedule as he tries to recover from surgery to correct a muscular problem, but he scored a sensational goal on 27 minutes. Dejan Stankovic dispossessed Patrice Evra and combined with Figo before Ibra thumped a brilliant volley past Edwin van der Sar.

Suazo has settled in very quickly to his new team after the protracted negotiations with Cagliari and completed his brace before half-time, again combining with the inspired Figo. Inter unveiled their new 2007-08 strip and fielded Cristian Chivu as a left-back in the first half, but switched him to the centre after the break with Marco Materazzi making way.

Rooney clipped the top of the crossbar, but United only got back into the game thanks to a howler from Adriano, who nodded Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick into his own net! Luis Jimenez and Julio Cruz also entered the fray and tiredness set in for the Italian club that is almost month behind English sides in terms of fitness preparation.

Julio Cesar parried a Ronaldo effort, while Rio Ferdinand and Adriano wasted golden opportunities to add to the scoreline. The Pirelli Cup goes to Inter, who won 3-2 at Old Trafford.

    Man Utd 2-3 Inter
    Scorers: Rooney 17 (M), Suazo 21, 34 (I), Ibrahimovic 27 (I), Adriano og 57 (M)

Manchester United: van der Sar; Brown, R. Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Carrick O'Shea; Eagles, Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo; Rooney

Inter: Julio Cesar; (Toldo 76); Maxwell (Bolzoni 90), Materazzi (Cesar 46), Samuel, Chivu; Stankovic, Dacourt (Filkor 77), Solari (Desenclos 65); Figo (Jimenez 59); Ibrahimovic (Adriano 46), Suazo (Cruz 59)

Adriano spared Man Utd blushes, and helpfully netted them a goal, to make it looks like a close contest Wink

Honestly, the guy is playing way too deep, even in the Emirates Cup, most of all he lacking a bit of luck.

Does this mean Inter might actually get further than the 2nd round/quarter finals of the CL this season, or will they choke as per usual?

If I were an Inter fan I would certainly enjoy it- success in Europe for the Argentine team is usually at a premium ;-)

    Its from channel4.

Like I said, these are all friendlies It does not account for much. Mancio has been experimenting, and I am sure so is SAF - it would be harsh to judge either team on their games at the mo, coz they do not matter... also Inter have been missing a lot of our starters, like Cambiasso, Crespo, Zanetti, Maicon, Vieira, & Cordoba, so the results of this england tour do not concern me, nor should they to a ManU fan. And nor should teh gunners/french here be too excited Wink

ManU should forget about Tevez and pay that cash for Adriano - he has already opened his account for you guys Wink

Very overrated striker, always has been. Can't believe Inter demanded £60m from us for Adriano a few years ago lol!

From what I heard, you offered some ridiculous amount like that, and Moratti turned it down... so whos the fool now?? Doh Doh

He is an amazing striker, or at least was at that time, he has lost it for the past 18 months via off field issues... he will come good, of that I am certain, the BIG question is how long are we willing to wait... DO NOT want another Recoba!!
