Who will replace Benitez at Inter... will it be an interim coach like Baresi or Zenga, or will Inter be able to prise away a long term coach like Spalletti or Capello this winter?

I have a bad feeling its Zenga Sad

Do you think Capello would stop being the England manager in a flash? That would be possible though since he has been heavily critisised.

mmh, thought you already knew about that, there was much talk down here about Capello hanging around with Moratti being one of the reasons of Rafa's outburst.
Anyway it could be an innocent thing, Capello's presence at the Club WC was planned since months.

While we are at it, another little bit of information that maybe didn't reach Uk media, which can be useful to understand Benitez behaviour: apparently his contract with Inter had a clause allowing Inter to terminate it without compensations at the end of the season (from May 15th to June 15th)

Apparently you can bet on who is going to be the next Inter coach.... latest odds:

    Leonardo @ 1.57
    Walter Zenga @ 2.75
    Luciano Spalletti @ 8.0
    Frank Rijkaard @ 11.0
    Marcelo Bielsa @ 11.0
    Diego Simeone @ 13.0
    Jurgen Klinsmann @ 13.0
    Fabio Capello @ 13.0
    Sven Goran Eriksson @ 17.0
    Martin O'Neill @ 17.0
    Marcello Lippi @ 21.0

Hmmm I forgot about Bielsa... that could be an interesting choice!!

About Leo being the fav.... looks like a case of 1 step forward, 2 steps back? But if the rumours are true and Leo brings Kaka to Inter, there is a part of me that will take some delight in ruining the new year for all rossoneri... Razz

Bielsa would be good, but it made no sense to follow Mourinho with Benitez so I'm going to guess it'll be Zenga.

Interesting to see some of the fan reactions... I posted a pool at pazzainter, a forum with a large but mostly young following, and the results were a bit surprising...

88% (38 out of 43) would be happy with Leonardo as our coach (over Zenga, Baresi, etc)...

Most of the older fans in other forums seem to prefer even Zenga or Baresi over Leo, but among the young fans Leo is quite the favourite!

Looks like it will be Leo... Moratti hasn't been too clever in disguising his comments, just like after Benitez's suicide....

"Today is not the day," Moratti is quoted as saying by Goal.com Italy. "We will do something and you will get to know more on December 26 or 27."

When questioned whether Leonardo is the man in his mind and whether appointing the Brazilian would be a snub towards arch-rivals Milan, Moratti remarked, "I never make this kind of reasoning, I do not live out of spite.

"And I would be disappointed if it were interpreted in this way."

    lol!

i have my doubts about Leonardo, but if Inter chose him there must be some reasons. The good thing for Inter is that Leonardo will want to play attractive football and he might attract young talented Brazilian players, just like he did with Milan Ac, when he managed to get Pato and Kaka.

Wow, this shocked me. Not Benitez getting sacked, but Leonardo as the replacement. A technical director turned manager but with only 1 year's experience, when he didn't achieve anything special? WTF? Looks like Moratti is back to his mental days, before Guardiola funded a sensible transfer summer for him last year.

And how on earth are you Inter fans so calm about it? I'd be rioting in the street about this. In fact, there *would* be a no-confidence motion against the president. Not only the lack of quality, but the fact that Leonardo's coming to Inter after a long association with your arch-rival. I never understand this about the Milan rivalry - so many players, and now coaches, seemingly swap sides with little anger on either side.

You have to understand that Internazionale was born with a scism from Milan.
It's always been a cousin rivarly more than a opposing factions thing. Both cousin crave for showing off that they can do better than the other. Doing it with the players and the "people" of the other is the ultimate perversion.

As abundance mentioned, the milanese rivalry is a bit different from most city rivalries... its not as bitter as some, its more about bragging rights. For most Inter fans, Juventus is a more disliked club than Milan. So while a lot of us are not entirely happy with Leo's "tarnished" past, there is no "street rioting" anger. Its more like a large sarcastic, insulting banner kind of rivalry rather than the "butchered pig's head" kind, if you catch my drift...

btw, Inter's president owns the club, so no-confidence motions may not work very well Razz

All badly won trophies... nothing great about those last 5 years, infact I would say they are cursed trophies I hope Milan never wins that way.

But my reference is on a larger picture, now Inter like to buy Brazilians maybe more than Argies but I remember when Milan used to have Serginho, Cafu, Kaka, Dida while you guys had the likes of Kily Gonzalez, Veron, Cambiasso all these players who were used to losing not only on a club level but also internationally they always got their asses handed to them.
