If it wasn't AS reporting this I would be dancing in joy because it would be a great deal. You never know though since they do get things right from time to time.

Would be a steal if true, don't think it is though. Would be a great deal, since Real need to strenghten both positions.

Supposedly, Ballack would get a 3 year deal and his salary from Chelsea would go down, while Robben would get a 5 year deal.

40 million Euros. And you're right about the second part.

Though apparently Schuster was asked about this by TVE and he smiled back and said "It's great news if it's true", in a way that he knew something like that was being negotiated.

Still all speculation at this stage of course. How can it be that Chelsea were asking for close to 35 million for Robben and apparently 30 million for Ballack if someone tried to get him, and now they both go for 40?

Like I said repeatedly, forget Ballack's wage, that's no problem anyway. Besides, Real is an Adidas club, and Ballack one of the most important Adidas players. Financially, there would be no problem whatsoever.


But I still can't see Chelsea selling both, unless they have found replacements already. Would be idiotic if not.

Well, for Robben they already have Malouda. Joe Cole can also play on the left. In Ballack's case, perhaps his absence wouldn't be so important since Mourinho is supposedly moving back to a 4-3-3 where Ballack would be in the bench anyway.

But they need backups for the wings. Joe Cole is as injury prone as Robben. Lampard is supposedly injured now also, not a serious injury, but still. Will Sidwell be up to it in the CL, for example? Essien and Mikel won't be around during the ACN also.

But who am I to complain, it's no secret that I'd really like this to happen.

Means we'd have more than doubled our money on the 2 transfers (Robben £12m, Ballack £0), so in that sense it's a good deal.

Despite Robben being very injury prone, I didn't want to sell him, he is imo a world class player and has served us so well (when fit) over the last 3 years.

Is it? A very good player who is only fit 2 months of the season, and someone who is 30 and they could have had for free last year for 40 million

Ballack would be amazing in La Liga imo. Just what Real Madrid need as well.

Another way to look at it is that Ballack is earning close to 10 million Euros a year in Chelsea, so you guys would be saving a lot in wages over a few years.

I think in Madrid he would earn significantly less, but that obviously wouldn't happen with Chelsea.

I rate Robben very highly though he is a c**t, Ballack I don't see what the big deal is, I really don't, I would pay around 15-20 million for Robben but nothing more than 12 million for Ballack.

Look at it this way though. Robben is generally out for about half the season, while Ballack had a pretty poor season, and was collecting £130,000 a week. Maybe he would've had a much better 2nd season (which I suspect), but if Madrid are gonna offer £27m for 2 players we paid £12m for, I'd take it personally.

So it's a done deal then?

Would be awesome for both, can see them both doing very well for Real.

I wouldn't be surprised if both leave because they don't get along with Mourinho anymore, the only reason why Mourinho would actually be willing to sell both IMHO. But hey, if there is no problem with losing both, like the Chelsea fans say, just do the deal and get it over with!

I must admit I would be relieved if Robben left. He has torn us to pieces on a number of occasions already. When he is fully fit he is a superb player and I think it would be a mistake to sell him. Ballack probably makes more sense to sell. He hasn't really proved himself at Chelsea yet for a number of reasons, and is also at an age where they are unlikely to be able to get a big fee for him in the future. He would be a great signing for Madrid though, and would add a lot to their side.

I can't understand why Chelsea would sell so close to the start of the season though. It doesn't give them much time to reinforce the side, and it's not as if they need to worry about bringing money in.

On another note, selling Ballack means we will definitely be going back to 4-3-3, which is absolutely fantastic with Mikel deservedly keeping his place, so big to the deal.

I still think on balance I'd rather keep Robben than not...but I suppose if he's not gonna sign on then he'll be worth almost nothing in a years time.

Yeah Chelsea could still field a front 6 of Mikel, Essien, Lampard, J Cole, Malouda and Drogba and have players like Makelele, Diarra, Sidwell, W-Philips, Sheva, Kalou & Pizarro as back up.

Still be very strong.

Guessing some of the money would go on Alves if this is all true?

I think we sort of pre-empted it. We have enough wingers for sure, thanks to the Maoluda acquisition. CMs 6 should be enough - most teams don't have that many (though Maké can't really play so many games at his age).
