Serie A returns to UK terrestrial tv! Empty Serie A returns to UK terrestrial tv!

Post by Sheffield gunner Sat Aug 04, 2007 5:43 pm

I haven't seen anyone comment on this so far, but I just came across this.

Live coverage of Italy’s Serie A returns to terrestrial UK TV with Five showing a top game every Sunday afternoon from August 26th.

Five will broadcast live action for 34 weeks of the season at 1.30pm (kick-off 2pm) on Sundays and is also showing a weekly half hour preview and highlights magazine programme on Saturday mornings at 11.30am. There will also be coverage of a second match in Five’s late night output.

Robert Charles, Controller of Sport for Five, said: “Serie A is still one of the strongest leagues in football with some of the most talented players in the world. The national side are, of course, the current world champions and Milan are Champions League winners.

“We are delighted that our viewers - both terrestrial and on digital - will be able to see some of the top club sides in the world in a truly fantastic league.”

Mike Ingram, Title, of Inform Group, who secured the deal with Five on behalf of Media Partners & Silva Ltd., said: “I believe that UK football fans will be delighted to see live Italian football back on terrestrial television. Five are a fantastic partner for Italian football.

“This agreement reverses the trend of terrestrial broadcasters losing out to Pay-TV. Serie A is now the only one of the big five leagues to have international terrestrial coverage in a major western European market.”

Fantastic news. It will be great to have Serie A back on the tv here even if we do have to put up with Channel 5's coverage. Hopefully they will bring back James Richardson as well.

I think he is part of Setanta's team for the forthcoming season.

Great news, and pleased about the times as well. Serie A at 2, Premiership at 4, and then La Liga at 8! Sounds all good to me!

    Good news.

I hope they bring in some better presenters and hopefully some experts on Italian football.

It won't be good if Colin Murray is doing it. Rolling Eyes

Still, thats what the mute button is for.

Pronouncing "Quagliarella" correctly should be quite a challenge.

fair play colin murray.... i truly hate this Pr!ck, he does euro poker tour too and he knows nothing, absolutley nothing. He could be joined by john barnes in some kind of c5 dream team of moronic, hateful presenters with david pleate and john motson doing the commentary!
