Recoba making the teams of the week right away!! Good to see him blossoming with playing time... he and rosina form a deadly partnership for Toro...

Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 3

    (goal.com)
Dimitrios Eleftheropoulos (Siena): Almost managed to keep a clean sheet against Milan before Nesta scored in stoppage time and denied the Bianconeri from three precious points. Proving his worth at Siena.

Simone Loria (Siena): Thanks to him, Gilardino vanished out of the game, thus limiting the offensive opportunities for Milan on Saturday.

Maicon (Inter): As usual a lot of work defensively and offensively, where he also assisted Crespo to the first goal of the match.

Andrea Barzagli (Palermo): Excellent performance by the Italian international who stopped the Granata attacks thanks to his great sense of position and anticipation.

Juan (Roma): Replaced Chivu in the hearts of the Roma fans. Typical Brazilian defender who moves forward to score when need be, apart from taking care of the defensive duties.

Fabio Liverani (Fiorentina): Despite a poor first half, Liverani improved drastically in the second period and assisted both Vieri and Kuzmanovic in their goals.

Cesar (Inter): Seems like the Nerazzurri have recovered an important element for their season as the former Lazio player produced an incredible performance against Catania which will surely please Roberto Mancini.

Marek Hamsik (Napoli): Player of the week as this young midfielder created havoc in the Sampdoria midfield and defence with his silky dribbling and inch perfect assists. Could have been a Juventus player, but the Old Lady’s directors opted for Tiago…

Marcelo Zalayeta (Napoli): Great form for the Uruguay forward who after last round’s brace managed to score yet another goal apart from hitting the bar with an imposing header and assisting Hamsik for his goal.
Alvaro Recoba (Torino): He’s back for real. The goal and several assists in a match where his star shone are all proof that he still has a lot to offer in his career.

Francesco Totti (Roma): Another vintage performance for ‘Il Capitano’ who scored and assisted Juan in the Giallorossi’s win over Reggina. Practically another man of the match performance.

    Honourable Mention

    Ferdinando Coppola (Atalanta)
    Alessandro Nesta (Milan)
    Pablo Hernan Dellafiore (Torino)
    Esteban Cambiasso (Inter)
    Taddei (Roma)
    Massimo Maccarone (Siena)
    Christian Vieri (Fiorentina)

Although the cb situation does look worrying for Inter fans, you should still beat Fener.

For that matter, he was very close to sign for us too.
In the end, at his age it's much better to start for Napoli than to be heavy rotated at Inter, but I would have been really pleased if we got him.

For the money, Hamsik looks a superb buy. If he carries on this form then I could see some big clubs sniffing around for his signiture come next summer. Would be very good business for Napoli. they signed him for about £3m and could sell him for £10m+

All roads lead to Rome this weekend, as early leaders Roma in terrific form host the most successful side in Italy, Juve. There is no love lost between these two sides, and Totti (3 goals in 3 games this season) has promised fireworks!! This is Roma's first real test, and will be followed by a visit to florence, and then on week 6, a meeting with champions Inter. If Roma are on teh top of the table after 6 weeks, it will be difficult to dislodge them.

Other top sides face must win encounters.

    Atalanta - Lazio
    Cagliari - Palermo
    Catania - Fiorentina
    Empoli - Napoli
    Livorno - Inter
    Milan - Parma
    Roma - Juventus
    Sampdoria - Genoa
    Torino - Siena
    Udinese - Reggina

Inter have an easy game, Milan should win, which means the 3 points in the Roma-Juve clash are huge, even at this early stage

Thats what should happen, but the way Inter are playing at the mo there are no easy games...

I hope Juve take some points at Roma, God forgive me for wishing evil!

The Parma game should be a 3 pointer for us, it won't be easy, as were not playing to our standard in Serie A at the moment but Parma are inconsistent and shouldn't cause much of a threat.

Bad luck mate, you guys are in big trouble domestically... .jsut 6 points from 4 games, thats no good.

I am delighted, of course. One less contender, its always good. And I expected the biggest challenge to come from Milan... I am sure Roma will sooner or later start dropping points.

Milan dominated the game but, like against Siena, could make the last pass or the shot. And again a big mistake in defense. Our luck is that Inter doesn't have the form they had last year.

True story... but if we can notch up some wins even when in bad form, then we'll run away with the title when we strike form... we started slow last season as well.

    Where's Deano?

I personally think that if we don't win our next two-three games, we can wave the title goodbye. We'll be too far behind, and given how we always seem to put the CL first, it will be too late.

If we don't win it, I hope Roma do.

I tried to find the Inter thread, but I couldn't.

I hope this DOES NOT happen. Moratti loves Inter, and that's why he invests in them. I don't want English style foreign takeovers in Serie A.

Moratti has rejected offers in the past during troubled times... it is hardly likely that he will sell now that we are in a winning cycle. Even tho he has threatened to do so in recent years, I think he will stick on for a while.

I don't want Moratti to leave... he is an idiot sometimes, but a likable idiot with a nerazzurri heart! Wink

Just saw Di Natale's 2 goals for Udinese yesterday... wow!

I am changing my opinion about this guy... maybe Donadoni is right, there is something there. You don't score goals like that without awesome talent.
