I believe firmly that a good idea copied is a good idea.

Here we go. What are this summer's top 10 transfers judging by team/squad improvement, cost, age, etc.

    1. Forlan - a great buy for a reasonable amount of money that has Atlético with money to spare after offloading Torres
    2. Alexis - was already done before the summer, but a great buy nevertheless for Valencia with a minimum cash effort
    3. Simao - another great buy for Atlético
    4. Raul García to Atlético. Should give them some real class in midfield
    5. Yaya Toure - looks the part so far and exactly what Barça needed,
    6. Cazorla to Villarreal - they need more than this to counter Forlan leaving though, even if this was an excellent new signing.
    7. Pepe - a bit too expensive to be higher up the list
    8. Pablo García - well done by a small club like Murcia. I hope he can get the form back that made him so instrumental at Osasuna.
    9. Henry - brings an experienced back up to Barça's front line but may halt progress of two of the world's most exciting youngsters and cause dressing room unrest (?)
    10. Ayala - Money for nothing for Villarreal. If only I could make 6M like that!

overall I think La Liga has seriously improved this year and I had to leave out excellent signings like Abidal, Milito, Reyes, Luis García, or Sneijder.

I suppose Rossi may warrant a mention but surely not anywhere near the top of the list. Villarreal lost Forlan. Do you think they can make a golden boot out of another Man U reject?

I was joking about him being number 1, but he should definitely been in the list. He is a wonderful player and has scored goals in every team (that plays football) that he has played for.

La liga will be perfect for him, as he is a small but very technically gifted. He has great vision, awareness and skill, he is a very good passer and dribbler of the ball. He is also very clinical in front of goal, so clinical that many at united said; after Scholes he was the best finisher at the club. Which is some praise as we had RVN at the time.

I think he will score at least 10 - 15 league goals this season and depending on what his team mates are like he may surpass that.

PS He wasnt a reject, Fergie wanted him to stay, but he wanted to leave because he wanted guaranteed first team football (If only he could have seen the future) hence why we included a buy back clause in the deal.

15 goals may be slightly optomistic, but he got 9 for a relegation bound team in half a season, so playing for a Uefa cup side in a full season it should be feasable.

Did you see his class goal on his debut for Villareal against Osasuna?

I didn't see it, but I hope he does well. The yellow submarine are a great team. If only they could cash in a little on Riquelme before the season starts. Not sure whether he'd come back now if nothing happens.

I would rank Yaya Toure a bit higher on that list, he is exactly what Barca needed. Also Gaby Milito should make that list, another great buy.

Pepe costed way more than his worth, Metzelder & Saviola were better deals by Madrid. As is Drenthe, rate him high.

Still, Drenthe was a bit of a gamble for such a young player and they DID pay over the odds for him. Metzelder in itself was a good signing, since he came for free, but then buying Pepe afterwards and having Cannavaro and then on top Ramos that can play there as well, he has become almost surplus to requirement.

Nobody in Barcelona is worried about Saviola going to Madrid. I think maybe Rossi could be in it, but I think everyone on this list deserves to be there as well.

I think Yaya Toure and Gabriel Milito should be there in it.

Yeah, Drenthe was a bit expensive, but Pepe cost more than twice of Drenthe!! I just don't see how Pepe is worth EUR 30M, good player but Real payed over the top!

    1. Diego Forlan (Atletico) - He's a bonafide goalscorer and he is much more clinical and works harder than Torres. Should be a great fit.

    2. Gabriel Milito (Barcelona) - Considering what we paid for Pepe, this looks like an absolute steal, especially considering he has plenty of liga experience and is at a great age. I also rate him high on the list because Barcelona have not had a good partner for Puyol.

    3. Raul García (Atletico) - Another really good signing for Atletico, he is the sort of midfield player they have really lacked since coming back up to the first division.

    4. Yaya Toure (Barcelona) - He looks, so far, to have the tactical discipline to play DM but can play as well. Another coup for Barcelona at just €9m.

    5. Alexis (Valencia) - One of the most promising young defenders in Spain and the long-term successor to Ayala. I think Valencia paid €6m. for this top talent.

    6. David López (Athletic) - Very promising midfielder and has come in for only €6m. Will give Athletic that extra bit of quality in midfield and could help them have avoid another relegation battle.

    7. Simao (Atletico) - Maybe a little overpriced but he has the quailty and experience to help Atletico finish in the top 4. Very good signing especially because of his versatility.

    8. Fernando Baiano (Murcia) - Established 1st division goalscorer, could be the difference between Murcia staying in the top flight. €5m intelligently invested.

    9. Joan Capdevila (Villarreal) - I really rate Capdevila, they've snapped him up for free. He's a good defender, does very well getting forward, and can hit a decent free kick.

    10. Hugo Viana (Osasuna) - Obviously has a lot of talent, didn't really explode in England and has been short of opportunities with Valencia. He will be the main man at Osasuna so maybe it will be the right environment for him to flourish.

I don't think Henry or Pepe can be in the top 10 due to the cost versus what they bring (Henry will most likely be a sub and Pepe is not even an established international). I didn't count Cazorla because he is really just returning from loan. Pablo Garcia is also technically a loan but I just thought Baiano could be the more influential signing at Murcia.

Why did Alexis move for only €6m? Thats very cheap.

Slightly surprised to see Henry ommited from a few lists, but a can understand some peoples logic taking into account age, cost and what is originally there. Do the Spanish media expect him to succeed at Barcelona?

If I'm not mistaking, Alexis had a buyout clause of 6m. and Valencia simply paid it. Very good piece of business.

Like I said, if we're taking all things into consideration I just don't think the Henry transfer is one of the top 10. I think most people expect him to do well enough. Obviously the Barcelona based tabloids have more praise for the signing than the Madrid press but the general concensus, I think, is due to his versatility he is a huge upgrade over the combination of Gudjohnsen, Saviola, Ezquerro, Giuly and will make Barcelona, in theory, not so dependent on Eto'o, Ronaldinho, and Messi.
