That will be a big blow for them. They have enough good midfielders to cope with Alonso's injury, but losing Agger could cause them problems. If they are out for six weeks they will miss some important matches (Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, a few CL ties).

Losing Agger is massive, he is one of the first names on that teamsheet for me, age has caught up with Hyypia and he could well be caught out at times with his desperate lack of pace. I guess Sissoko will get more playing time.
Did you see that Rosicky is now out for two weeks.

Scans on Liverpool pair Daniel Agger and Xabi Alonso have confirmed that both have broken metatarsals picked up on international duty and could be out for six weeks.
Denmark international Agger has been playing with the injury, but complained of soreness ahead of Tuesday's Champions League draw in Porto and was consigned to the bench.
Spain midfielder Alonso missed Saturday's draw at Portsmouth and aggravated the injury in training in Portugal on Monday and was also left out.
Both had scans back on Merseyside last night and can now expect to miss games against Birmingham, Everton, Tottenham, Arsenal and the home European ties with Marseille and Besiktas.
Club spokesman Ian Cotton told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Neither player will require surgery but we expect them to be out of action for between four and six weeks.
"Xabi Alonso has suffered a stress fracture to the fourth metatarsal in his left foot and Daniel Agger has suffered a stress fracture to the second metatarsal in his right foot."
Boss Rafael Benitez has cover for Alonso with Javier Mascherano and Mohamed Sissoko able to partner Steven Gerrard in midfield, but the loss of Agger puts pressure on veteran defender Sami Hyypia, who deputised against Porto and was partly to blame for the early penalty conceded in the 1-1 draw.
Alvaro Arbeloa can deputise in central defence, where Jamie Carragher has only just recovered from a cracked rib, while the only other alternative is young reserve Jack Hobbs, who has no senior experience.

Yep, unfortunately he is always going to pick up injuries on a regular basis. You could see straight away that it was a muscular injury and it looked like a hamstring problem again. Let's hope that it is only two weeks out. With Arsenal these injuries have a nasty habit of taking longer than expected to clear up. Hopefully he won't miss too many important matches. I guess we will play Walcott against Derby, and whenever Eboue returns to fitness he will play because I think Diaby is struggling a bit when he plays out wide.

Dont have much time as Im off to Uni in a bit but............
Both are big losses but espically Agger.
I really worry for the games V Everton and Aresnal espically the latter.
I have to say Arebeloa should played in the center with Carra againist Aresnal, Hypia should be ok againist Yakubu but againist Johnson with his movement agh its all too worrying.
Hopefull its only for 4 weeks, lets not forget many players for eg: Rooney came back eariler than expected.

Alonso won't be that missed with Gerrard, Mascherano and Sisqo.
Agger though is a huge loss. Hyypia looks slower than a milk float these days.

hyypia will be fine in the PL apart from against teams like united and arsenal so we should be fine apart from the arsenal game which agger may make it back for. any more injuries to carra, hyypia or arbeloa will be interesting though
we are getting as many broken bones as penalties given against us this season

paletta would have been a liability
he did think heinze was a done deal so he fucked up a bit there
carra, hyypia and arbeloa should be enough to get us through for a month. any new injuries and we may struggle though

Re: Xabi Alonso and Daniel Agger Crocked
i cannot understand how he thought heine was a done deal, a letter from man utd stating they'd sell at €6m was no way ever going to form part of a binding contract

We obviously have $h!t lawyers frank
It was not rafa's fault he got fed poor information
If worse comes to worse we could try momo out at centre back
we could try to break the record for penalties conceded this season

Re: Xabi Alonso and Daniel Agger Crocked
Absolutely gutted about Agger, Hyypia has a big responsibility but this a huge problem when faced with pace, it means Hyypia will probably start in the derby for instance and Johnson and Yakubu will be delighted against Sammi IMO.
Alonso is a big loss as well but we do have good cover.
We can't let this stop our run, it will be very tough though

I think that is going to become my new personal agenda, like Brian's 3-5-2 formation for England!
