No, it wouldn't have gone in if the keeper hadn't slipped, kudos to him for getting it on target from there but it was more luck than skill that it wasn't saved. Not even top 10 this season.

Fantastic Vision - I agree, but the Fact that Harper Slipped kind of took the gloss off it for me.

Still put Marlon King's, Didier Drogba's and Daniel Agger's in front of it, because as the boys said above the keeper slipped.

So far Agger, King and Drogs' goals were better Xabi's as sensational it is, with vision, distance and on target, is still a keeper's mistake for slipping. He's fourth so far.

I agree with some posts on here - vision by Alosno was superb (not hit and hope), the goalkeeper slipping .. may have taken the gloss -- but a 'good' goal.

Ridiculous fluke : if the goalie wouldn't have slipped he'd have easily cought it and Alonso would have simply wasted an attack.

eh if he didnt shoot then the keeper would never have slipped... it's called forcing a mistake..

I would pick it as goal of the season. As COTR said, the rushing back IS what made Harper slip. You can't say it is a goal because Harper slipped. If Alonso hadn't forced the issue he wouldn't have slipped.

Personally I thought Ivan Campo's goal on the opening day was better - mainly because no keeper in the world would have stopped it, such was the swerve on the ball. Both are hit and hope though...

Really? I'll take another look, but he shifted his weight to one side just as the ball really starts to move to the other side, as any keeper would have done in the same situation.

Even if both are down to goalie mistakes, they are both exceptional strikes - much better than Gerrard's in the FA cup final...

Well Gerrard's goal is more to do with the timing and context of that goal. I think in that context it is better than Alonso and Campo's goals.

Perhaps so, since it was a last minute goal in a cup final. But in terms of pure aesthetic/technical wonder, I don't rate it that highly.

Not being biased, but I'd say Drogba's goal was better.

And from a Liverpool perspective, Daniel Agger's was better too.

The main reason is the fact the keeper would almost certainly have stopped it (you can never be sure) had he not slipped, which is of course a different situation with both Agger and Drogba.

Still an excellent goal, but not goal of the month for me (although it'll probably get it - and yes, I do know Agger's was last month)
