It was in the papers today but I think its just rumours. If its true, then its a bizarre appointment. He's hardly a protaganist of silky attacking football

He will probably move for van Persie, if he takes over at Chelsea.
£40m should do it.

Van Basten tipped to take over from Grant
Avram Grant's position as Chelsea manager was placed under fresh doubt last night when it was claimed that the Holland coach Marco van Basten had been offered the job by Roman Abramovich.
Van Basten sat behind Abramovich at Old Trafford to watch Chelsea lose 2-0 against Manchester United on Sunday and it is understood that he will not discuss a new contract with the Dutch FA until November, when the Euro 2008 campaign is completed.
The former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello, however, reportedly claimed that Chelsea youth director Frank Arnesen has already recommended van Basten to Abramovich. Capello is quoted as saying: "Arnesen wants Van Basten to take over and has already recommended Marco to Abramovich. Frank and Marco know each other well from their time in Dutch football."
There is already a strong Dutch influence close to Abramovich, who has been advised by the scout Piet de Visser and who helps fund Guus Hiddink's salary as Russia coach.

This could be ... fun.

Chelsea have not made any approach to the Dutch Football Association over Holland coach Marco van Basten.
Owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly offered Van Basten the manager's job at Chelsea, casting doubt on the future of the recently appointed Avram Grant.
But the Dutch FA claim they have not had any contact from Chelsea, who have in turn denied approaching anybody regarding the managerial position.

"Abramovich is said to favour the attacking style of football that Van Basten has brought to the Dutch national team."

Sometimes when a person is naive they believe what they think is true based on stereotypes.

so Grant doesn't have enough experience of management for the job but Van Bastern does?
It's great that we live in a world where your name matters 50x as much as what you've actually achieved (as a manager, vb was a great player).

Van Der Saar has 120 caps why would he need to see him. If they were gonna change the keeper surely it will be after the qualifiers are out of the way.

If the Press were honest they'd have to say that the arrival of Romana Abramovich and then Jose Mourinho at Chelsea is the best thing that has happened to them in the last forty years of English football. Daily there has been a new story about who Chelsea are going to sign, what Mourinho has said, the latest behind the scenes scandal, misbehaviour on the pitch, war of words between managers, which players are unhappy and who is about to leave for Real Madrid or Barcelona. Ninety percent of it is made up but who cares it makes great copy.

I don't think any of them would have come up with Avram Grant. Yet again fact is stranger than fiction.
