Dick Advocaat now officially the 4th best coach ever!

Last weekend Dick Advocaat, from Den Haag, won the title with Zenit. He won now in three different countries the title. He won it with PSV, Glasgow Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg...

Only Trappatoni, Happel and Ivic won their titles in 4 different countries. For the rest now one have a better CV than Dick Advocaat.

a monkey could win the title in scotland seriously, strachan is clueless and even he manages it. Dick's a good manager but nowhere near Trapp or Happel, not to mention numerous others. If your at a club for as long as somebody like Dario Gradi doing a v good job and your happy its impossible to win titles in 4 leagues.

I don't think either he is the 4th best coach. But he is definetely underrated by the critics... He is a bit old fasion but all his teams always played decent football!

Where Louis van Gaal failed with his magic football intellect to get the Dutch team to the World Cup. Dickie brought that same team to the semi's of the EU04. A very good result with a very old squad. The youngsters were not able to replace the old buddies at that time...

In the Netherlands he was threatened to death after he changed Robben while he was just back from an injury and sollicitated for a red card (I still stand behind that decision). it shows how bad the Dutch press (and the mass) was those days...But then as a national coach you can only be good when you win a title!

Under rated maybe, and i did enjoy watching rangers when he was in charge at least they played a bit more footy than usual but winning the title wasn't too difficult a task, even Big Eck managed it and we was worse than WGS

Yeah Rangers played goodish football, he did ok in his time there. But all in all his spell wasnt the best, and he isnt rated so highly. I would say good coach, but he's not one of the best in the world no way.

He has quite a lot of money at Rangers I seem to remember. Van Bronckhorst, Numan, Amato, Kanchelskis etc were all big buys for Scottish standards. The Zenit achievement is obviously very good.

I wonder where he will manager after Australia.

He made a nice profit on gio i think....but the rest yeah very dodgy buys that didn't really work out so well.

Gio was his RANGERS name.... The Ranhgers board were afraid the CHEAP scottish didn't want to buy his shirt when he had G.I.O.V.A.N.N.I.V.A.N.B.R.O.N.C.K.H.O.R.S.T... on his shirt

The board were afraid the people didn't want to buy it... Celtic, the greater and better club, are smarter because the people love those long names!

Rangers fans in general are normal people like you and me. Those catholics on the other hand, they wear celtic tops to sleep, collect their benefit money each week and spend it on a ticket for the next match.

Dick’s Rangers team were lovely to watch for the first 2-3 years.

Rangers had three fantastic goalkeepers at that point: Klos, Niemi, and Charbonnier. Lionel Charbonnier is my favourite goalkeeper to play in Scotland. Was he rated in France?

By the way, Gio’s name on his shirt at Rangers was Van Bronkhorst, not Gio.

Dick’s defence was always a bit suspect apart from Numan.

His attack was also very weak. After all, he only had Wallace and Johansson to win games with! Guivarch was mince; Amato was unbelievably talented but didn’t suit the SPL; and Flo, Gayle, Ostenstad, etc were risible!

He really only had a good midfield and goalkeeper.

In midfield he could choose from Van Bronkhorst (yes, he played in midfield for Gers), Reyna (what an athlete, and so direct!), Albertz, Ferguson, Kanchelskis, Tugay, etc.

With a good striker and centre-back Rangers might have done better under Advocaat.
