    Well?

They seem to be back in with a chance in the Champions League, although hopefully this thread will go some way towards jinxing that Razz

If they do qualify though, they're certainly a very good knockout team and IMO can beat any of the teams out there across Europe.

Then there's the league. They're unbeaten after twelve games: 6 wins 6 draws ad if they win their game in hand, they'll be level on points with Man Utd in 2nd.

They've certainly added some much needed squad depth, and over the past month, everything seems to finally be clicking. Whats more, there are still areas of the squad that evidently need improving, ie, this team could get a lot better. They still don't have a real quality winger on the pitch when Kewell is injured, they lack central defensive cover when Agger is injured too.

So how far can this team go? Is this temporary form a blip, or was the lull in form in October the blip and are Liverpool set to have their most successful season in the EPL under Rafa yet?

Arsenal are the ones surprising people this season. What Liverpool players have played better/worse than expected? Not many really, except Arbeloa who looks like a steal.

The performances in October were a true reflection of Liverp0-0l, they are currently playing above themselves and united will soon bring them down to their correct level.

You're grinding our results though. You're not setting the league alight, but you're slowly rising up the league at the moment, and up until the 16th December, your fixtures aren't too tough

Well first on more realistic issues they have a tough draw in the carling cup, so that one looks a bit shady.

On the league well yes it would be a surprise alright.

On the cl if they manage to beat Marseille which i doubt, then anything can happen as we have seen in previous years....as long as they are out of the title race of course. <Ale>

Arsenal is the real surprise considering most peoples including myself thoughts at the beginning of the season. They remind me a lot of man utd last year, just not quite as good Biggrin

    True, we probably aren't.

Gallas since his return has been phenomenal though. A True world class player and him and Touré have struck up a brilliant partnership together. The same has been true of Cesc and Flamini in the centre.

We still chronically lack squad depth though. Almunia is in truth, a pretty $h!t keeper and shouldn't be anywhere near the first team of a CL quality squad. Senderos is also a pile of tripe and when ACON comes along, I'm seriously worried we might have to utilise him.

Manchester United have scored 23 goals in the League (after their slow start) Liverpool have 22 (after their quick start and rape of Derby). If you add the Champions League, Liverpool I believe have scored 1 goal more (curse you Peter Crouch)

Maybe it’s down to the different manager’s philosophy? Mourinho was considered a ‘defensive minded’ coach to many but in his first season Chelsea set a new League record for the most goals in a season by playing 38 games.

Well we were in the bottom 3 at the start of the season and considering we have won 9 lof the 16 premiership titles, I would say our true form is top of the league.

Despite scoring more than us you have still been involved in 4 times as many 0-0 games than us this season Cuntter.

They'll finish 4th, and will have a nightmare in the Velodrome, thus eliminating them from the CL.

Rafa will get the sack, and Torres will be relegated from the status of "Club Legend" to just "Another mediocre player that Gerrard has to carry on his shoulders", whilst the next big-money signings and new Gaffer will be hailed as the new Messiah's for 2008-09 Ale

Post by Luis Thu Nov 29, 2007 2:45 pm

I think I've learnt my lesson not to be hasty.

What I said a few weeks ago came after a few disgraceful performances in Europe and a frustrating goal-less draw at Blackburn, what I saw in those few games was no confidence, no flair and ultimately just no way of scoring or winning the games.

I think this week has been a statement of real intent from Liverpool, obviously Benitez has been the centre of it and there's been a few words tossed back and forth between him and the owners but the players showed they weren't effected. The win at Newcastle was the best league away performance I've seen under Benitez, we were in control from the start, we passed it well, kept it well and every time we went forward we looked dangerous, we should have scored 5 or 6 really.

Last night we didn't play so well, we looked a bit edgy once their goal went in but you have to hand it to Rafa, his subs did the business, Crouch gave us a better option, Kewell was magnificent and Torres benefited from these two guys.

Torres is the best player we have at the moment and is probably the best striker in the league at the moment, he's definately the buy of the summer, some of the things he does are just fantastic, he's not afraid to take his man on, to have a shot, he's very determined and he just has so much talent, I can't understand how Frank can condemn him, he's brilliant and the Liverpool fans love him, for me he should be the first name on the team sheet every week.

It's really exciting times for Liverpool, unbeaten in the league, looking strong in all areas, Agger and Alonso still to return and still very much involved in all 4 competitions, so it's looking positive, we've got to keep the momentum going especially over the Christmas period.
