Post by Luis Mon Dec 03, 2007 2:18 pm

A thread nicked from RAWK, I think it will be handy to keep track of the big 4 in December:

    Liverpool
    Liverpool v Bolton 4-0
    Reading v Liverpool 3-1
    Liverpool v Man Utd 0-1
    Liverpool v Portsmouth 4-1
    Derby v Liverpool 1-2
    Man City v Liverpool 0-0

    Arsenal

    Aston Villa v Arsenal 1-2
    Newcastle v Arsenal 1-1
    Middlesbrough v Arsenal 2-1
    Arsenal v Chelsea 1-0
    Arsenal v Tottenham 2-1
    Portsmouth v Arsenal 0-0
    Everton v Arsenal 1-4

    Man Utd

    Man Utd v Fulham 2-0
    Man Utd v Derby 4-1
    Liverpool v Man Utd 0-1
    Man Utd v Everton 2-1
    Sunderland v Man Utd 0-4
West Ham v Man Utd 2-1

    Chelsea

    Chelsea v West Ham 1-0
    Chelsea v Sunderland 2-0
    Arsenal v Chelsea 1-0
    Blackburn v Chelsea 0-1
    Chelsea v Aston Villa 4-4
    Chelsea v Newcastle 2-1

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the end we can compare how each team did and who looks the most likely to go on and win the title <Ale>

I think this is a very tough month for Arsenal and Chelsea whilst the fixtures are slightly more favourable for Liverpool and United, however Liverpool have that make or break Marseille game sandwhiched between Reading and United and also have a carling cup away game at Chelsea which I'm sure a few first team players will play in.

Anything less than 12 points from those 6 games would be unacceptable.

We should win the 4 games vs Sunderland, Derby, Fulham and Everton (seeing as the Everton game is at home.

Its the West Ham and Liverpool away games which are a lottery, both games could be win/lose or draw.

It means, that both games are alot less easier to predict. Most people would expect us to win the other 4 games, especially Fulham and Derby at home.

I reckon we'll beat Reading and Derby pretty comfortably, we should get a narrow win over Pompey at home, City away will be tough but our away form is excellent and they have to fall away some time, the United game is huge, I'm confident but we never tend to get luck against United

    Arsenal

    Aston Villa v Arsenal 1-2
    Newcastle v Arsenal
    Middlesbrough v Arsenal
    Arsenal v Chelsea
    Arsenal v Tottenham
    Portsmouth v Arsenal
    Everton v Arsenal

Well, I didn't expect us to win on Saturday so that's a big bonus.

With the mess Newcastle are in at present, I'm hoping for a win on Wednesday, although a draw would be far from the end of the world. Likewise, although the boro game is away from home, if we're serious about the title this season, we should be winning games like these.

And then it gets REALLY tough.

Chelsea at home is a bit of a lottery, we could win, they could win - I just don't know.

Then there's Spurs at home - but a Spurs under a new coach who will want to prove he's the don. It could be tough.

Then there are IMO the two most difficult fixtures and both are very loseable.

I'm not confident. At the start of the month, I'd have been happy with 12 points from these games. Anything less than 8 will not be at all good whilst anything over 16 would be amazing.

Its so difficult to judge though

It's utter nonsense to rule Liverpool out at this stage Ricardo...it's a four horse race for sure...There is no way you can include Chelsea in the title race without Liverpool and vice versa.

So Arsenal have dropped 5 points from 5 games, Man Utd 0, Chelsea 3 and Liverpool 6 (all from 4 games). Fortunately we have 2 home games now, whereas our rivals all have 2 away so this is our chance to hopefully narrow the gap..

I thought seen as we have been in the top 4 for every week of the season bar one week, i might as well include our December fixtures. 3 away games have generated 2 points but we have beaten Bolton at home and now face Blackburn and Liverpool at home. 5 points from 4 games isnt brilliant but seen as 3 of them were away its not bad.

December has been a tough month for us and we have fallen away a little bit. Im notsurprised cos Vila, Blackburn, Tottenham and Liverpool are all very good teams. We have got 7 points from our 6 games which isnt brilliant but at the same time we were unlucky not to draw at Spurs and that we didnt beat Blackburn, with those points we'd have had 10 points and would've been looking good. Still only 1 defeat against some good sides shows that we are becoming hard to beat.

Yep, I agree. Plus, some people said that once Arsenal start losing they would struggle to pick their form up again. Since the defeat at Boro we have played seven games in all competitions, winning six and drawing one (at Fratton Park where Man Utd and Liverpool have also only picked up a point).

I have to say this: it doesnt tend to be games against the rest of the Big 4 which decide the league. It's the tricky away games:

In this category I'd put Pompey, Everton, Newcastle, Blackburn

Arsenal had 3 of these this month and still took 5 points which is not a terrible return. I'm reasonably happy........
