UEFA banned him from officiating at the World Club Championship this season owing to his blunders in the Scotland-Italy game last month.

I wonder if he will be reprimanded even further by being prohibited from representing Spain at next year's Euro 2008 competition. Apparently it is between him and another Spanish referee to take part in Austria and Switzerland.

He's one of the best Spanish refs who just happened to have an off game. Typical of the British tabloids who bully UEFA into decisions, see Everton & the CL, and then complain Europe doesn't love them.

true, the only big mistake he made was the freekick. The bigger mistakes were the 2 on/offside decisions made by the linesman.

Tha free kick on Hutton was just crazy! But, a Roma legend scored so it all worked out well for me in the end.

    cheers

That's right, it was the linesman who made the mistakes, I think!

I think refs are usually married up with the same linesman and 4th official they prefer/normally work with for UEFA cup competitions.

So his usual officiating team were probably disqualified from participating in Japan along with himself.

I recall reading that he is competing with another Spanish ref for a place at Austria and Switzerland.

ps Not that I'm sure he should have been banned; I'm not sure. I just didn't see it posted elsewhere.

yeah, but the 2 offside calls which hurt italy were made by the linesman. I don't think the ref had such a bad game overall, and it wouldn't have changed the result of the game if all 3 decisions were given correctly.

Forget about who it would have worked out for. That one decision was so bad he deserves to be dropped just for that <Ale>
