"Please do not underestimate the importance of this match with Scotland. For me it is of massive importance.
"It's going to be a a very big challenge for us to go there and win the game.
"The World Cup is in the past. We've also dealt with the Italy match and now we're into the crucial stages of the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
"Personally, I feel the trip to Scotland will be the first genuine match in the qualifying campaign, I really do think that.
"Scotland aren't top of the group with us by accident.
"They have got there by getting two exceptionally good results at home to the Faroes and away to Lithuania and we won't take them lightly.
"In winning their two opening games they have done enough to merit our respect and they will get that."

Siiiiiiiiiii,
So where does Domenech say that Scotland are BETTER than Italy?
I happen to think for once that these are excellent comments from Domenech. As usual though, those with an agenda have taken them out of context in order to make a story and to wind people up.
It is crucial not to underestimate any opponent. As Domenech says, the first two games of the group aren't particularly vital, it is rounds 3 and 4 that will really start to create or influence the group order - 'the first genuine match'.
And in that sense it is the first 'genuine' match that France will face - the France v Italy game had a strange feel about it, Scotland will certainly give the French a tougher examination, the return in Italy will provide a more genuine statement about these champions. Scotland have nothing to lose, they are playing at home in front of their amazing fans, whereas Italy were nowhere near match fitness and left several key personell out, plus had just introduced a manager who spent his first three games trying to fix something that wasn't broken and as a result Italy played three dreadful matches.
Not to worry, 6 points from our next two games will hopefully put us back in contention for a qualification place.
