Good article. What's more worrying is that most of those signings have all been £10m+!

In the EPL, the only £10m+ flop so far has been Bent, that I can think of.

Having said that, there weren't exactly many £10m+ signings in the EPL this summer

I'd have to say one of the worst signings i saw this season was Bramble to Wigan, i mean why the f@ck would anybody sign Bramble after watching year after year of errors and systematically proving he is the worlds most un-reliable centre back.

You might as well of bought a 6 foot brick wall, at least it would be consistant sitting there on the edge of the box.

    1. Muslera (Lazio) for 2M - Cr@p gk, not a patch on the retired Peruzzi...
    2. Scaloni (Lazio) for free - sub standard comes to mind, waste of money
    3. Cicinho (Roma) for 9M - too much money for a 3rd choice RB, but he has the talent to prove worthwhile in the future
    4. Andrade (Juve) for 10M - Injured, done nothing, too much money spent
    5. Tiago (Juve) for 13M - so far, useless... the most expensive backup for Juve
    6. Almiron (Juve) for 9M - promised to be their most shrewd signing, but playing second fiddle to youth player Nocerino
    7. Emerson (Milan) for 5M - injured, has done nothing so far
    8. Dhorasoo (Livorno) for free - Just caused disruption in the locker room, wasted salary
    9. Jankovic (Palermo) for 8M - shocking choice here, extremely talented but has not taken the few chances he got... why was he bought if the coach did not believe in him??
    10. Tristan (Livorno) for free - done nothing, apart from giving false hope to Tifosi that he may replace the legendary Lucarelli
    11. Caracciolo (Sampdoria) for 5M - what a Cr@p buy for someone who has once again proved to be a 4th choice striker

Nice job bluenine! I forgot that Tristan had gone to Italy! He's been rubbish for years. Laugh

Keita has been a really bad signing so far, very disappointing. Grosso a little bit as well, but he played well recently. Anyway, Abidal was always going to be difficult to replace.

Can you really call someone a failure on the basis of a ligament injury? What are the odds he comes back and proves himself with the 10m I think very high.

Also I disagree on Pepe not really much time to show anything. Given the usual state of organized chaos at Madrid.

yeah i agree it is not good choice to pick injuried players. thats why i dont think pepe+robben+andrade are flops. pepe has barely played any matches for us and robben has maybe completed a match or two. it would be better to do it at the end of the season allthough i gues its about entertainment.

Robben I can somewhat agree with because everyone knew his injury history. However Pepe and Andrade historically have not been injury prone so again this makes the debate of them being bad signings difficult for me to accept.

Well, if you sign a player and then they don't play, for whatever reason, it's not been a very good signing. It doesn't mean it's the players fault or the clubs (unless it is us...because we have idiots making our signings) necessarily. But still not a good return on the investment.

Then this is where we would have to philosophically disagree. I think that a bad signing is one where you know of historical issues and yet still get the player or a player who flopped on the pitch royally.

I don't think Pepe and Andrade qualify as either.

But also you have to remember, this is worst signings "so far". Pepe could go on to be a great signing...but to date, he hasn't done enough to be qualified as such.

Yes, well, after the match on Sunday I can see what you have been talking about all this time. Pepe was impeccable in every aspect of the game. Having him as my avatar is me admitting that I was wrong about Pepe. He had been having some good games but they were against mediocre opponents. This was for real, in the Camp Nou and Pepe was, for me, the best player on the pitch. Ale

My friend i am very happy Brasil have chose to ignore Pepe which makes him available for Portugal which will make out defence stronger at Euro 2008(Andrade has become very injury prone).

Pepe will get better and better IMHO he will become the best central defender Real have had in the last few years <Ale> <Ale>
