Deschamps apparently said no because there wasn't a French school in Newcastle for his son

Wow. I'm surprised and quite giddy. It's a risk, but like i've said, rather that than a Mr Average like Hughes or Redknapp.

Doesn't look like Shearer will be involved...Keegan only. It's on the official website too.

Don't want to put a dampner on the parade, but what can he actually do with the players they have at the moment?
Unless they can manage to go out and buy 2-3 quality players before the transfer window shuts.
More likely if any improvements are made, it'll be next season.

Re: Kevin Keegan new Newcastle boss
I am full of joy.
As Ive said, no appointment would have excited me more than Keegans appointment does. If hes happy, full of enthusiasm, trusts in himself, there is no better manager for us - and with us Im optimistic that he will be able to manage at his very best. Plus, as David Ginola pertinently pointed out a few days ago, he has unfinished business at the club. Im a little apprehensive in that if things werent to work out with Keegan in charge, it would really hurt, and it would be a shame to muddy everything he did for us first time around. But like I say, Im optimistic, and we needed a figure to put the passion back into the club, which Keegan provides like no other.
Keegan is probably the one person Shearer could work with as assistant, but Im not entirely sure it would be a good idea. On the one hand, if everything works out, then whenever Keegan leaves in the future we have an our replacement, we have some continuity. But if it doesnt work then it would make it hard to give Shearer the job. It would be putting two potential saviours in the one basket. We will see.

The hysteria which appears to have surrounded Keegans return, i'm fairly sure he'll be given the full backing of the board, but i expect to see more movement in the summer window as opposed to now.
Shearer as a number two IMO would be an excellent appointment although it doesn't appear to be happening.
I'm looking forward to seeing whether hes still got the hunger, because hes a nice chap and i'll never forget the famous 'i'll loov it if we beat em, loov it'

Re: Kevin Keegan new Newcastle boss
Sequels are generally hugely disappointing, and this one may be disastrous. Keegan is stepping into a zone that's dangerous for him now. The EPL now isn't the same league full of talentless hoofers Keegan was coaching against back then. Now the league's full of superior players, and superior coaches.
I wish Keegan the best if he coaches Newcastle, but I just don't see him beating Ferguson-Queiroz, Wenger, Grant-Ten Cate, Benítez, Ericksson, Ramos, O'Neill, Moyes, Redknapp or Curbishley. However, most of us are romantics, and wish Keegan success hopefully he can bring Newcastle to where they were during his era. [but he's up against much much much better competition this time around!]

Re: Kevin Keegan new Newcastle boss
How is he a better appointment then Redknapp , Hughes really , he is tactically naive , dont know how to build a defence.
What has he done in his career that is so impressive is beyond yes he was a runner up to Man Utd in a season where he and Newcastle choked and that was 12 years ago ,prem has completely changed from that era anyway , hell it has changed from the Man City days he had.
Sorry for me this is a bad appointment , Jol would have been a lot better option.

I think it's unlikely tbh, not that i would be against it. Infact we should bring them all back, Rob Lee, Daveeeed, Phillipe, Srnicek, and ofcourse Warren Barton.Parks lives wrote:I thought the board just said Shearer won't be manager, nothing about not being the number 2.

Bloody hell.
Keegan has broken one of the top rules of football - never go back. I predict he'll be gone before the end of the year.

He is bound to play attacking football but like people say the EPL has changed a lot and managers are very clever and teams are tougher to break down. If they go all out attack and dont defend well then they will get picked off by teams.

Attack IS his defence DS. If you look at how many goals we conceded back then it was actually LESS than what Man U were conceding, surprisingly.Dark Savante wrote:How is he a better appointment then Redknapp , Hughes really , he is tactically naive , dont know how to build a defence.

What has he done that is so impressive? He took a side that was on the verge of being relegated from the 2nd division and took it to 3rd, 6th, 2nd, and 2nd place finishes in the premiership. Plus he got Man City promoted with a record amount of goals, he didn't do a bad job there like people say.

For once Puro, I would tend to agree with you 100%.
The League in Keegan's era was totally different to this one. Only 1 World Class team- Man U. The rest were pretty sh*te at that stage. Only have to look at performances in Europe for proof.
Getting Newcastle into the top 6 this or next season would be by and large a massive success. A good run in one of the Cups too.

Back then Kimbo EPL has changed alot for our liking too much at stake , okay he was impressive but he didnt win anything as I saw that one of your criterias as you were rating Souness ahead of Hughes.
As I said forgot 12 yrs it has changed in 3 yrs alot , from the emergence of Chelsea the league is a diff game.

But lets see if he can make the good side of Newcastle work
Milner----------Emre--------DM---------------N Zog

These are good enough players to play an attacking game.

Yeah i liked him when he was first in charge at City, he also finished 9th in his first season back in the EPL. However, he did waste a hell of a lot of money on $h!t players (signed Vuoso for £4m and NEVER played him not even on the bench, Macken cost £4.5m, Fowler £6m, Negoui £2.5m etc) and set us back a good few years. He also sold the Goat which was worng, wrong wrong.
Still i guess he brought in Anelka, Benarbia and Berkovic and we played some amazing football.

I know. If you were a little more open-minded then you'd be agreeing with the truth more often than not.
Throw in there Juande Ramos as well as the superior coaches Keegan will now be facing. I forgot new guy Ramos. I hope I'm wrong for the sake of the (Car) toon army, but this one disaster written all over it. We both are in agreement that Jol was Newcastle's guy this time around. I told Kimmy from the get go that Jol FOR MANY REASONS was his man for Newcastle. The Dutch would've been hugely motivated to compete with the Magpies.

I was HOPING you would appoint Jol for the reasons I told you in earlier posts. Your Harry "Average" Redknapp is not a bad coach. Yes, I told you before that I would trust my team under his tutelage, but I NEVER said Redkanpp "was the man".
You can't separate bullshit from the facts.

No they didn't. What RM found out is that neglecting the rest of your squad for the sake of offensive players doesn't work in the long run. Having said that neglecting your squad for the sake of defensive players doesn't work as we saw with Sam.
