Mike Ashley
When he does his "man of the people" act by sitting in amongst the fans in his XXXXXL replica bar code shirt (surely the whole point of being the owner is that you can sit in a box and get trollied during the game) and his cringeworthy celebrations tonight where he felt that he had to shake hands with everyone 5 times and pat them on the back after every goal - all the while gazing at KK like a lovestruck teenager.

Re: Mike Ashley
Not embarrassing at all. He may be a chairman, but he's as much a fan. Why shouldn't he be allowed to celebrate? If I owned a football club I wouldn't like to sit in a directors box looking gloomy.

Re: Mike Ashley
I missed all of this. I don't fault him for his unconventional managerial behaviour, but someone's got to advise him a bit better in how to run a football club. If Newcastle weren't already the laughingstock of English football, they may be well on their way.

Re: Mike Ashley
I do think its a bit daft sitting with the fans to be honest..and doesnt he have Smith on the back of his shirt? Seems stupid aswell...cant fault his passion for the club though. Cant beat a chairman who loves their club.

Owner.
"ooh please heap your adulation upon me you salt of the earth Geordie folk".
I bet if they ever won anything major the fans would all chant his name and then he'd say "but really, its not all about me - this is for you, the fans"

Re: Mike Ashley
He doesn't sit with the fans, he's only done it once or twice. Today he was in the directors box. He first did it at Sunderland because Niall Quinn wouldn't let him wear his shirt in the directors box, then he stopped him buying a round for the travelling fans. And we're calling Mike Ashley a c**t? *tut-tut*

You're sounding like a bitter Barry. Don't worry about this, i don't give a $h!t what the Watford owner does, infact i don't even know his name, nor do i care.Pierre Littbarski wrote:Crouching Tiger wrote:Not embarrassing at all. ...and has yours ever needed to stoop so low to prove his love for 'boro ?
No - he's just poured his money in and given time to managers in an attempt to give the club stability.
He's a fan, he knows it and so do they so he doesn't have to court attention like Ashley, preferring not to take the attention away from the team.

So if you owned a club, you wouldn't wear your teams colours or celebrate your teams goals?

I would - but it would be either in the privacy of my box or incognito in The Rookery.

Re: Mike Ashley
I think its safe to say that we are already the laughing stock of English football, and that we have been for some period - whether the scorn directed our way is always valid is another question - its often misguided, based on false assumptions, on nonsense instigated and built up in the press - but we are often scorned, we are often laughed at.
Given our level of performance over the last three or four seasons, given the number of bad decisions our managers and our previous owners made on the clubs behalf, Im not hugely embarrassed by our new owner jumping about amongst the fans in a replica shirt. I can see why some people argue that, whatever its value initially, its time has passed, and that Ashley should take a bit more of a back seat from now on; on the other hand, I dont think hes doing it for the sake of appearance, just to look like one of the people - I think he genuinely enjoys being part of the crowd and supporting the team like any other supporter.
His recent actions may mean that we continue to be laughed at, but they also mean that our fans wont particularly care about this either way, because ultimately he has given us a manager that we can respect and support wholeheartedly.

Re: Mike Ashley
Best thing about being at a match is being amongst the crowd and feeling the atmosphere.
Usually you can only see one end of the pitch, can't see action replays, might miss a goal if you don't pay attention etc.
Sitting in the directors box must be like watching it at home on tv but with someone serving you drinks, and having some idiots talk about business instead of watching the game.
So I think I would prefer to sit in the crowd. Abramovich does doesn't he? Maybe he doesn't jump up and down, but different peopel celebrate different ways, maybe he's jumping up and down in his heart

Re: Mike Ashley
embarasing . i don't think so.
newcastle ave it good. you know hes got the club at his heart more thn his hand in his pocket .
aka. the yanks at liverpool are more bothered about making money.
he bought keegan back bcos he knew its what the fans wanted. hes a great credit to the club.
i think its a good thing you see a differant type of chairman that actually integrates with the supporters.

They were drug dealers ! I dont care cos he appointed Sven, funded our spending and set up some brilliant deals that will generate millions for the club in the future. Without him we wouldnt be pushing for a place in the Champions League, instead we would prob be in a boring mid table position with a team full of bad signings that dont give a $h!t about the club and having to re-appoint an old manager to try and save the day.

I dont think so, when we played Liverpool the other week 8 of the starting 11 where at the club last season. Johnson, Richards, Hamann, Hart, Etuhu, Ireland, Onuoha have all improved and would have added to the squad, plus we would have strengthend a little bit with the Barton money. Our problem last season was Pearce, he fucked things up with a team that should have been top 10.
