Avram Grant.
It'd be nice to see what kind of a manager he really is, without being handed arguably the best squad in world football.

I know he was offered a contract with some club in the Middle East ages ago, not sure if he took or not.

Actually, looking at that thread, Bruce sounds feasible...Doing quite well at Wigan, might be tempted by a step up - can't see many top managers being attracted to them, with the timing meaning they wouldn't be able to get any players till Jan at the earliest.

Re: If you were Mike Ashley
There's a lot of betting on Gus Poyet, who would obviously be a puppet manager - and really, such speculation makes you wonder - have we just been using Keegan this summer as a fall guy, planning all the while not to spend much money, planning to force him out as soon as the window closes, to be replaced by a manager that Ashley and company can work with more freely?
But anyway - hopefully someone sticks a knife in Ashley before he gets to make any new appointment.

But wasn't Bruce hired last year? I know that he can't do much with Wigan, but he got pretty good group of players, and even had Heskey rejected move to Tottenham yesterday. Don't see him leaving really.debaser wrote:Actually, looking at that thread, Bruce sounds feasible...Doing quite well at Wigan, might be tempted by a step up - can't see many top managers being attracted to them, with the timing meaning they wouldn't be able to get any players till Jan at the earliest.

Re: If you were Mike Ashley
But on that basis, why go to the expense of sacking Big Sam and all his staff last year, why not let him carry on till the summer?
I hope for Poyet's sake he doesn't take it, it's a poison chalice, and he has no Premiership management experience.

Re: If you were Mike Ashley
Poyet won't leave Spurs. You can count on it
I can't believe it was only last January we were speculating on the next Newcastle manager.
Bloody pantomime.
I'd be furious.
Should've got Jol when they had the chance. The Jolfather would've just beefed up a bifter and had a schmoke rather than get irate like Keegan has

Re: If you were Mike Ashley
Yeah, it's true. He may not want to leave that for what looks like an unstable post...however if he has ambitions of managing a bigger club, the opportunities don't necessarily come round that often - okay the Newcastle one may repeat itself in 6 months, but turn it down this time and you may not be offered next time.stinger wrote:But wasn't Bruce hired last year? Plus he's been out of work for 2 yrs since he left Villa. Doubt he'd walk back into a big premier league job

Was interviewed by the Irish Times last week saying he wants to get back into football but with the right club, so that rules out Newcastle.

Re: If you were Mike Ashley
Roger - I wonder whether it is the case that Ashley appointed Keegan in January knowing that it would prove a popular move, hoping that he'd be able to implement his own ideas and policies and structures without Keegan complaining much or asking for much. Keegan has proved unhappy with all this, and so Ashley has essentially forced him out.

While I agree generally, he did do very well Leeds for a couple of seasons.

Most people in Newcastle can't stand that pan-faced fake, hiring him would be silly.
