it's amazing how he is up there, above anderson, bentley, elano, barry, arteta etc, all proclaimed by this board to be better passers. Makes me wonder about the knowledge pool we have here

So what? Hleb has been a better passer than Cesc this season and he's not on this list. How many passes and how many complete doesn't tell us anything about the nature of the pass. No one cuts a defence like Hleb: no one does a better through ball than Elano; no one spreads the play like Scholes; and no one manipulates space in midfield like Cesc. Really Gerrard is not up there with with the real playmakers. You can call him a combative midfielder who score goals, whatever. But he's not an intelligent passer,

yes, stats are great when they fit with your opinion, but don't tell the whole picture when they're not

also I was initailly taking the piss out of the stats, while at the same time taking the piss of the consensus of opinions on this board

he isn't the best passer, but he isn't anywhere near as bad as made out to be which is what the stats do indicate. Someone who is as bad as passing as made out on this board, or not an intelligent passer in terms of through balls etc, wouldn't get 79% accuracy would they?

yes he is a top box-to-box midfielder with a very good range of passing
