Just a few thoughts on the game: Tim de Cler is the real LB for Oranje not Bouma or Urby, really did well. Sneijder feeling he has matured now and we can safely say he is a international player, where i thought Oranje was overly comfortable for the large share of the game Croatia were guilty of miss opportunities and Van der Sar never put a foot wrong. Affelay was impressive when he came on. Am i right in saying Holland is the 1st team to win in Croatia for a long time?

Aaah, what a great night : we finally played some good football again and the Germans were completely Cr@p !

It's back to business as usual

We were awesome...still...why does Furby even get a chance in this team!

Same said for de Jong and Babel!!!

De Zeeuw and Gio worked very well as central midfield, more space for Midget and Fatty this way.

Affalay was great as well for the time he was on!

Has to be said this was the best match under van Bastard imo!

A bit mixed feelings really...

I thought he lost possession too much and that's a thing we can't have for sure.

The bit where he turned, made space for himself and put a shot just wide was top A class quality though.

Almost everybody seems to agree he had a good game, so I'll blame my judgment on my bias against him

I also thought VDV and Sneijder didn't have a feel for each other yet : they should time better who goes forward and who stays in the hole.

....that will only improve every time we play this system

I'm extremely optimistic after this match though : for the first time MVB leaves his 4-3-3 formation....and look what a difference it makes

It's all about the midfield : Croatia did to England what we did to them.

We *owned* the midfield : it was crowded and tight, the team with most technique and best positional play was gonna dominate.

With Gio & De Zeeuw we have two excellent DM's who understand each other, who have more than average technique and also can go forward and score goals. With VDV we have a play maker and Sneijder is always a threat to have a crack at goal if he's given the space....

The poorest part was that Huntelaar is no link-up striker (as I've always said), it is so incredibly underrated how well Ruud does that for us. With Ruud (or Makaay, if we keep playing this system taking him to the EC is a must) we would have done *much* better, I'm convinced of that.

Huntelaar is very unlucky : he excels as a deep striker in a 4-4-2....and neither Ajax or Oranje ever play that way. This way Huntelaar will never be the player he can be.

So there's still room for improvement : Babel and Huntelaar have to be dropped period, Sneijder maybe.

Possible replacements for Huntelaar : RVN, Makaay.

Possible replacements for Babel : RVP, Afellay, Bruins or Seedorf.

Let's go crazy.....and try out Bruins

Van Basten hinted he could deploy a 442 formation in the foreseeable games, but its best to stick with the system he used yesterday and get the best out of RVN (Having RVN, Seedorf and Van Persie would only make this system stronger). Afellay yesterday showcased why he could be a future regular in the team it’s all about development. His run + cross for JVoH would have made Alan Hansen proud it was all PGD !

Binnen twee weken heeft Jonathan de Guzman zijn Nederlandse paspoort binnen. De Canadese middenvelder van Feyenoord stelt zich kandidaat voor het Nederlands elftal.

'Het is aan de bondscoaches Foppe de Haan en Marco van Basten om te beslissen of ze me selecteren. Maar als dat gebeurt, ben ik beschikbaar en beschouw ik dat als een grote eer', stelt De Guzman zich in De Telegraaf bescheiden op.

Van Basten en De Haan hebben al kenbaar gemaakt De Guzman te zien als potentiële (olympisch) international. De Haan liet daarbij doorschemeren de Feyenoord-middenvelder graag te willen meenemen naar Peking, terwijl Van Basten een Nederlands paspoort voor De Guzman toejuichte.

De twintigjarige Feyenoorder, die op zijn twaalfde in Rotterdam neerstreek, krijgt over tien dagen een Nederlands paspoort. 'Ik ben blij dat het nu zover is. Ik heb ernaar uitgekeken. Al sinds 2000 ben ik hier en ik voel me inmiddels sterk met Nederland verbonden.'

In april 2006 vertelde De Guzman in Voetbal International een uitverkiezing voor Oranje in zijn achterhoofd te hebben bij zijn paspoortaanvraag. 'In de toekomst is dat ook makkelijk bij een eventuele transfer en ja, dan kan ik ook voor het Nederlands elftal uitkomen', zei de Canadees.
