Bellamy facing more time on treatment table

West Ham striker Craig Bellamy faces another six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a second operation on his persistent abdominal injury.

Bellamy has struggled with the problem all season, making just seven league starts for the Hammers since his £7.5million summer switch from Liverpool, and he first went under the knife in October.

The Wales captain returned to action off the bench in West Ham's defeat at Wigan three weeks ago - but he was still suffering and it was decided he needed another operation.

West Ham physio George Cooper said earlier this week: 'He has been absolutely brilliant.

'Everything he has done has got him back to almost being ready and there is a feeling that if he carries on with slight symptoms they are likely to get worse rather than better. The symptoms have to go.'

Bellamy took advantage of the enforced surgery by also undergoing a procedure on his knee.

Scott Parker is set to resume training on Monday after recovering from a knee injury, while Kieron Dyer is also on the road to recovery following an horrific leg break.

Striker Bobby Zamora played a full 90 minutes for the reserves last night and is set to have one more run-out on Monday before returning to first team contention.

Apparently some West Ham fans have been giving Ashton stick.

I thought he was a fans favourite?

Curbs has come out today defending him anyhow.

Ashton has pissed off a lot of fans for his current lazy attiude and failure to have an effect during the game. That said, he has not received any stick, if anything he seems to get sung about and cheered louder more than any of the other players...

Yeah, but Curbs could start giving some youth players a chance then instead of moaning about the injured players.

Would be fantastic to see some young ones in the team.

I was obviously there mate, he didn't get any stick. Our fans booed when Carlton Cole got taken off, due to the fact Cole was playing well and Ashton didn't. It seems Curbishley has been affected by the media stirring $h!t IMO.

I'm off to Fulham today, hoping we put things right!

Don't worry Hammers! Yes, there are a few injured players, but none of those are sorely missed to tell you the truth. You know the one that makes EVERYONE look better on the field is back, and will give you three points again. <Ale>

Have you seen the goal Puro? I've heard it should have been disallowed for handball.

No, I haven't seen the game. I just saw that he was back from injury. West Ham will have that creativity needed to open up opponent's defenses now. <Ale>

It was a handball, but couldn't really be helped, Neimi and Nobby both dove for the ball, it bounced between them and unintentionally bounced of Nobby's elbow and in. it was screened by both their bodies from the officials so they couldn't see anything happen.

There were about 8 handballs from both sides...Howard Webb was terrible. We were much the better team anyway...

Sweden midfielder Freddie Ljungberg's West Ham career appears to be all but over after he was offered £3m to quit the club. (Clubcall, 1059 BST)
