European Treble Tracker Empty European Treble Tracker

Post by fcb Sat Mar 01, 2008 11:33 am

Starting this thread to keep a track of all the teams in Europe that still have a (reasonably realistic) chance of doing the treble - domestic league, main domestic cup, CL/Uefa - this season. As a team gets knocked out of the Cup or Europe, or mathematically falls out of the running for the league, we'll strike their name off the list.

I have gone through and first put together a list of teams still in Europe, then checked who's still in their Cup, and then finally checked the league standings...Getafe/Sporting/Marseille/Anderlecht lost out on this last hurdle, but I gave Benfica and Roma the benefit of the doubt for now.

    --------------------------------------------

    Italy:
    AS Roma

    Germany:
    Bayern

    Scotland:
    Rangers

    --------------------------------------------

Who do you think are the teams most likely to do the treble? Bayern, Man. Utd, and perhaps Inter look the best placed right now. Still don't fully trust Barça's chances.

I think Manchester United will...the thing is, I'm not sure what he'll do in the FA Cup if they have an important CL game a few days later.

Didn't you say Roma would win the Champions League?

You can add Marseille for France, still in the U.E.F.A cup, French cup and fourth in the league. Don't think they will win any of those to be honest.

Yeah, I removed them because I saw they were quite a few points off in the league...and unlike Roma/Benfica, Marseille have a few teams ahead of them as well, so to win the league from here would be very unlikely.

I think united have as much chance as they usually do in europe. No need for me to further elaborate on this Biggrin

They will probably have to beat chelsea in the final of the FA cup which is a 50/50 game and they are only slight favourites for the league because of arsenal's injuries

Barca's best players are returning to full fitness so my money would be on them. They still have comfortably the best team in europe

Bayern has the best chance of winning the treble.

If Barca do winning the league i only see them winning one of the cups.

Chelsea and Roma don't have a realistic chance of winning the league so they shouldn't be their especially Roma.

I see arsenal Winning the prem, and i don't think man utd will get pass the semi's of the CL so i won't put my money on them winning the treble this year.

If Barca and Man Utd can overtake Real and Arsenal in the league and open up a gap then they could have a good chance. But then both teams could play eacher other in the next round of the CL.

As long as it is mathematicly possible you can´t rule anyone out. And to be honest as much as i like the CL and the UEFA cup i can´t put both at the same level so a more fair table would be the ones who can win Championship/Domestic Cup/Champions League

If we win our game in hand (Derby at Stamford Bridge) we'll be 3 points behind United. Tough ask and with this current manager I sincerely doubt it but we still have a decent chance of the treble.

I think a treble is only realistic for 2 or 3 teams....ManU, Bayern, & maybe Barca. I would have added Inter before our shocker at Anfield.

You may as well score Rangers of the list as well, because after tomorrow the treble will be only a distant dream.

I've removed Barça and Benfica from the list. Benfica drew last night, and are now 14 points behind with just 8 games in hand. As for Barça...well, let's just say it'll be a long time before a bunch of clowns can win a treble.

Yep, Inter and Roma are also on the brink of being out of the running for the CL and league respectively. As for Rangers, it's interesting to note that their path to the treble is blocked by Bayern themselves.

I've left them there for now, but with Inter about to be out of the CL, they'll be able to concentrate on the league again. Their injuries could be a problem for them though.
