What Gallas thinks of Walcott Sport_index_splash_446504a

WILLIAM GALLAS has slammed his own team-mate Theo Walcott ahead of Arsenal’s crunch Champions League showdown against AC Milan in the San Siro tonight.

In an astonishingly brutal analysis of Walcott’s game, controversial Gunners skipper Gallas claims the England Under-21 striker must:

    # Change his style of play

    # Work harder in training

    # Learn to use his left foot

    # Be less predictable

    # Become more focused

    # Stop taking too long on the ball

French centre-back Gallas has been under fire himself for his childish antics at Birmingham last month where he sat down in the opposition half with tears in his eyes after his team conceded a last-minute penalty equaliser.

Walcott, 18, also scored twice that day — his first Premier League goals for the club — though his efforts were overshadowed by Gunners hitman Eduardo breaking a leg.

But Walcott’s progress at Arsenal has not been smooth since his move from Southampton two years ago — a move that could eventually cost the Premier League leaders £12million.

    New Wayne Rooney

And even his own manager Arsene Wenger admitted the youngster, a shock pick by Sven Goran Eriksson for England’s 2006 World Cup squad, had not developed as quickly as he would like.

But Gallas’ criticism of the prospect is on another level altogether.

Speaking to GQ magazine, Gallas said: “I think Theo Walcott can be the new Wayne Rooney but he has to change his style of play.

“He must work hard in training because everyone knows where he will run with the ball.

“He goes on his right foot — so he must work to come on the inside on his left foot.

“He must be less predictable and more focused. He can also take too long on the ball.”

Asked if Walcott listens to his advice, Gallas replied: “I hope for him he does because he has great potential.”

    lol!

Said a few weeks ago Arsenal's horror spell began with this clown claiming Man Utd are overated and will struggle to beat Arsenal. Then he risks a 3 game ban by kicking someone, then he cries on the pitch and make a fool of himself an dnow he blasts a young guy at a crucial time. Doh

Arsenal have basically thrown their season away in 2-3 weeks. Of course if they beat Milan today that sounds stupid but Milan are big favourites.

A desperate attempt by Gallas to shift the focus away from his own horrendous failings as captain of the club onto a youngster who, disappointing as he has been, hasn't played enough to have a key role in Arsenal's season.

    @ Lrd.

Arsenal havent thrown the season away quite yet. A result vs Milan today and victory against Wigan at the weekend and we are back on track.

Given that they work at the same place, would it not have been wiser (not to mention easier) to give Walcott this 'advice' at the next training session, rather than plaster it all over the tabloids the day of a massive game?

As I've said many times before, if you are happy with your club having no loyalty to its players, abandoning its history, treating its country with contempt, and in general becoming everything that is wrong with the modern game then so be it. But it makes you and your club a target so you can have no complaints (without being a massive hypocrite).

Yep...once again the good people at The Sun twist the words.

If you look at the quotes it's clearly not an attack. He's saying how good he is and that he needs to work hard (not harder) in training to fulfil his potential.

"Gallas states bleedin' obvious" probably didn't make such a good headline...

Calling a player predictable, when they are a forward, is an attack. I've looked at the quotes and this is definitely the sort of thing Gallas should be saying in private in training sessions, not in interviews with the Sun.

He's saying how good he is and that he needs to work hard (not harder) in training to fulfil his potential.

"he has to change his style of play."

He isn't saying how good Walcott is.

If you're happy for your captain to be laying into one of your youngsters for playing the game in the wrong way then that's your choice. But don't deceive yourself, Gallas is once again being incredibly arrogant and saying loud and clear 'don't associate me with this/these loser/s'. If your manager had any balls then he'd strip him of the captaincy, not play him again before the end of the season and then sell him. At any other club this would be regarded as unacceptably unprofessional.

This applies equally to manu, what about loyalty to becks, ince, stam etc; what about cashing in on the aircrash with AIG; what about withdrawing players from the england team for being 'injured", what about encouraging your players to do whatever they want on the pitch such as rooney endless tirades against refs, or whatever they like off it such as cronaldo going to prostitutes?

If you're going to target arsenal, aren't you also being a massive hypocrite?

All of which had decent runs at the club. The turnover of players at Man U in the last decade hasn't been anything like what it has been at Arsenal.

But sure, they're similar if not quite as obvious about it.

    what about cashing in on the aircrash with AIG;

I think you'll find my comments on that were derogatory.

At least they've got players in the England squad...

I've often criticised Rooney's attitude and said quite openly that if someone had broken his leg like Taylor did to Eduardo that he'd deserve it just as Eduardo does.

Ronaldo shagging hookers is neither here nor there. Who really gives a toss who he fucks?

If you're going to target arsenal, aren't you also being a massive hypocrite?

Nope, because I've criticised other clubs for the same things, including the clubs I like. Arsenal are the best example of what's wrong with English football. That doesn't mean they are the only example.

No, unless singling out one team above all others for my criticisms that apply much more broadly makes me a hypocrite. 'Blinkered', conceivably. 'Biased' I could handle. But I'm not a hypocrite. Much of the time.

Captain Fantastic's constructive criticism seems to be bearing the fruits already. Walcott's cameo towards the end was good.
