Keane wants £50m
Apparently Keane wants £50m in order to take Sunderland to the next level i cant wait to see how he wastes it, £15m for Smith i bet would be one signing. £10m for Ebanks-Blake etc.

Re: Keane wants £50m
He is comparatively new in management and could get better. Sunderland have many holes to fill, so he has to spend on players that he would not, all things considered, really want to buy, but has to in order to fill all the holes, even though the lack of quality will create other holes. That said £50m should buy somequality. He needs to think survival and long term plan.

How much did they spend this year again???
Keane is a JOKE of a manager...and now they give him another 50 million...that makes Sunderland a JOKE.

Re: Keane wants £50m
Well now he should be able to attract a lot more higher class of player. There was one report of Smith another of Forlan i think Forlan is probably closer to the mark though getting him is maybe a bit far fetched. See no reason why they wouldn't give him the money, it's not like he's failed in either season he's been in charge both been hugely successful.

A Joke?
Promoted in his first season.
Avoided relegation in his second.
Of course he wants more money so they can go to the next level - Midtable like Newcastle.

With all the zillions he spend? Not really, there is like..ZERO future in that team.
Keane is clueless. And he is only staying up because there are teams in the EPL who are worse then worse.

They were SUPPOSED to be promoted, people talk like that was a big accomplishment. They were expected to be around the top no matter who came in as manager. And staying up isn't that awesome when you look at how much money he has spent, compare his spending to the other promoted clubs in recent years.

They were supposed to be promoted whoever was manager?
Thats why they were in the bottom 4 when he took over after 5/6 games.

Re: Keane wants £50m
They were SUPPOSED to go down according to you boro and bash as thats what Sunderland always do so......
When Keane took over the play offs was the realistic aim, nobody expected them to get automatic position from where they were.
Chalrton and Watford were SUPPOSED to come back up this season, doesn't work out that way unless you have the next wc manager in charge

I bet you he tries to sign Darren Fletcher. Michael Silvestre might be on the cards as well and what about Frazier-Richards or whatever he's called who is on loan from UTd currently?

Exactly, after ONLY 5 or 6 games. People talk like they were bottom after 15 games. He had a good squad by championship standards, lots of money, and we're supposed to kiss his arse for doing what was expected. The pundits up here were saying exactly the same thing as me. So far Keane has proven fu.ck all, he went par for the course in the championship then he bought premiership status. Great, well done Roy.

Ofcourse, but i'm hardly surprised that a team that has spent £50m has managed to stay up.

give me £50m and I'll keep Sunderland up.
Even Rafa could have kept them up with that much money, and he'd probably reach the Champions League Final inexplicably.

I think Keane has done well. It looks like he has kept them in the EPL, and, let's be fair, that was he primary task. Anything else is a bonus.

I think this is the most important point, premiership survival was imperative - the hardest part is now getting the blend of a solidarity and quality attacking penetration without leaving the defence exposed.
I remember clubs like Charlton and Birmimgham making this transition, and it is so very difficult.
Still, Keane was a harsh critic of players when he was still playing, and having played with many, knows what makes a good footballer.

Re: Keane wants £50m
They ain't survived yet. 33pts is not safe.
Do people not remember Sheff Utd last season? Would not be surprised if there was another team like that this time - who think they're safe because of a few points cushion now, but forget to get any more points and get caught at the end. Sunderland, Reading, Wigan...could easily be one of them this time.

The difference is West Ham were an actual good team with quality players. Bolton are shite.

Re: Keane wants £50m
it just takes a bit of scrapping, bit of luck...a couple of wins for bolton or fulham and they've a chance...because at least one of the teams above them will have a couple of losses. look at birmingham's remaining fixtures. they've got 4 tough fixtures then fulham away. fulham 6pts behind now, could easily be within striking distance by then.L r d wrote:debaser wrote:They ain't survived yet. 33pts is not safe.

Re: Keane wants £50m
I agree with the sentiment that ultimately, Keane has had a successful season, and to his credit Sunderland have played some decent stuff at times - they don't deserve to go down, and despite Keane being their manager, I am glad that they're staying up - they are a bigger club than the likes of Bolton, Wigan and co., they have more support and more potential, and it's nice to have the derby fixtures every year.
But I don't think Keane has done anything to suggest that he will progress into a good manager, or that Sunderland won't struggle towards the bottom again next year. He's done a solid job, nothing more. The fact that Sunderland are going to stay up validates the money he has spent, but still he's spent much more than any of the clubs around him, and he hasn't spent wisely. He's spent £46 million net this season, which adds to £6.5 million from last season (though he made £3 million of that back in sales), and I'd argue that a number of the players he has bought couldn't be sold now for as much as he paid (perhaps none would go for more money besides Jones), whilst a number of them aren't good enough if Sunderland do intend to progress towards mid-table, and so might already be deemed surplus to requirements.
Personally, I don't regard him not speaking to his players as a plus, and this added to his supposed outburst at Reading earlier in the season makes me wonder how much his somewhat calm, reflective persona in interviews simply hides a still overly aggressive nature.
Would Sunderland be able to give him another £50 million for next season? They seem especially well-off, and I don't know why that is - presumably Quinn doesn't have loads of money?
