Re: Gerrard> Keane
Gerrard always was and always will be a poor mans Roy Keane. Even when Keane was 33 with a dodgy hip and knee he'd have Gerrard on a short leash when we ever we played that lot. Keano would slow the game down and Gerrard would be running around like a headless chicken wasting his energy and when he was fucked Keane would speed it up and "Stevie G" would go missing, meandering around the part aimlessly like a looking for his mum in a shopping centre, and after a while, once Gerrard got some energy back and summoned up a bit of courage to sprint around like an idiot again, spraying pointless and easily cut out long balls, Keano would slow it down and Gerrard would do his little fish-out-of-water routine again. If it wasn't so pathetic it might have been funny, and if I have had a little more compassion I'd probably feel sorry for him.
You would have thought he'd grow out of it, but he hasn't.

in terms of footballing ability no question.
Since the Keane "contained" Gerrard keeps coming out from parks, that is essentailly what he did. He didn't pass it around better, create more goals or even score himself. His positioning and tackling were his strengths. He stopped the central midfielders who might cause damage on the opposition team, and shouted at the rest of his own team. If scott parker had played alongside scholes, giggs and beckham he would also look better than he is.
Keane was superior in terms of positioning, tackling and shouting (although shouting is not a footballing skill)
Gerrard is better at passing, crossing, shooting, dribbling, heading, therefore the better all-round footballer
Additionally athletically they are both very good, but gerrard is faster.

Re: Gerrard> Keane
Seen a lot of their games, and in general the difference was that manu's team, was better than liverpool's. In fact if I remember correctly, giggs was usually the best player.
Keane is great at keeping it simple and passing it 5-10 yards to scholes, giggs or beckham, but gerrard has a far better range of passing, including through balls.
It's pretty much the same argument that scholes is a better passer than gerrard. For the same reason gerrard is a better passer than keane.

Do bears shit in the woods ?
Of course Scholes has been a better player, but then Scholes is 31 ? And Gerrard 26, got a few more 'prime' years to make an impression.

Tell 110% that.
He seems to think because Liverpool were weaker at that time, its impossible to compare.

Re: Gerrard> Keane
At passing yes, gerrard being better at tackling, dribbling, crossing, heading etc and about equal at shooting.
In terms of passing, vision etc Scholes is better
In terms of position, tackling, leadership, Keane is better.
(and they fit together perfectly)
In terms of being an all-round footballer taking into account everything: passing, tackling, positioning, crossing, dribbling, shooting, heading, athletic ability, leadership and whatever else you can think of, Gerrard is better than both overall.

Actually the most important thing is how the teams plays. Easy to see, just look at dinho at PSG compared to dinho at barca. For the reverse look at sheva at milan compared to sheva at chelsea. When you have other high-quality players complementing your style etc you look a lot better.

Re: Gerrard> Keane
Roy Keane at his peak (1997-2001) was an absolute monster. He had everything you expected of a midfield general. He wasn't even that bad creatively.
Remember those two goals he scored at Highbury?
Has Gerrard ever done any thing like Turin 99 (Don't give me 15mins in Istanbul, please).
This thread is indeed a joke.

more like 60 minutes... but let's not get into that. Gerrard was atleast playing in a champions league final. No cynical challenge from him in the semi to bring down a far more talented player.
Has Keane ever scored in every final a player in English football can score in?
