Very dissapointed this morning. A sickener really, we've given them out in Europe and now we have to take one. We didn't have our greatest game but I think 1-0 to us might have been a fair result. 1-1 just changes the tie completely. That's the champions league, 1 more goal from us and we would have been through, 1 for them and now they are almost certainly through IMO with the second leg at the Bridge. Any other ground in Europe except Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford and I'd fancy us to turn it around and create a memorable night but our record there is just horrible, I don't think we've scored there in a good 5 years, it just looks a major task for this Liverpool side.

Torres didn't have his best game, he should have scored 1 at least but he's allowed to have 1 bad game. Riise - what can I say? in all honesty he should be clearing that no problem but it represented a lack of confidence, he didn't know what to do, just a reaction isn't it, I don't like to blame one player but if we don't get to Moscow (which I doubt we will now) then I wouldn't like to be John Arne Riise, he must be absolutely sick this morning.

Not a lot we can do now, obviously we need to score a goal at the Bridge, we can do that, it's going to be very hard but if we do score in the first half then it's game on again.

1-0 would have been a very difficult lead to take to the 2nd leg IMO, the mentality of the players deep down would be to protect while Chelsea would be gung-ho. Now the players know they need to score and that it wont be the end of the world if Chelsea score.

Chelsea didn't play well, they have to play United at the weekend while we have a reserves match against a woeful Birmingham. I'm keeping my pecker up.

Of course things can have an effect, like Chelsea's game with United and Terry being on a yellow card etc but I just think this is Chelsea's time to beat us, at home it will suit them this scoreline, they can just sit back and when we attack them, launch a ball up to Drogba and make things happen.

Who knows what will happen, if we get to Moscow then it will just be an unbelieveable achievement to add to Rafa's list

I don't fancy our chances much either. Can't remember a time when we have had such a negative result (more in the way it happened) in the first leg.

You can't get to the final every year anyway.

    Grr

if we'd been losing for an hour to a lucky goal but scored an equaliser in the last minute we'd all be elated. The performance was sound and Rafa got his taqctics right more or less, it was jut unlucky that Aurelio got injured and Riise made a mistake. Rafa will get his tactics right in the 2nd leg, will Grant? Chelsea will need another slice of luck if they want to get through.

he did actually hit the target, and the shot at the end cech actually had to make a decent save.

I don't understand why some liverpool fans are so down, ok they conceded a goal at the end, but it is far from over. You have to score and gerrard and torres (and kuyt Wink) are well-capable of that. Even if chelsea do score it doesn't really make any difference to the game plan. The decider could be if chelsea set up their team to defend, survive 80 mins then liverpool score and go 1-0 up. They'd have 10 mins to get back into the game with a defensive team.

Babel works much better as a sub also. I'd leave him on the bench for an hour or so then bring him on to score Wink

    We are down because

    - we were the better team

    - chelsea did not look like scoring

    - the match should have been over

    - we should have won pretty comfortably and maybe decided the tie

    - the goal we conceded was ridiculous in both it's nature and timing

But we'll be fine by the time the match comes along next week. I'm not sure if he'll start with babel against the chelsea bus. Babel needs space so a better tactic may be yossi if he wants the same formation or go 4-4-2 with crouch

in fact I am not sure you'd want the support, remember we all did with the avatars and then liverpool won 8-0

I don't mind him favouring Liverpool, but as a pundit he shouldn't go to such extremes as he does (i.e. showing bitter expressions when the opposition score). I think you and I could manage to do this (along with most people on here) so it's not something that is particularly difficult.

I agree that Thommo isn't a great pundit.

He wears his heart on his sleeve for Liverpool and I can't fault him for that. It's a great shame that he alienated so many at the club during the Houllier years, he should have a backroom role somewhere.

they were both straight at the GK though, the first one he should have scored easily and the 2nd he knew it was coming to him, there'd been free men back post all night

you missed out the one where he was clean through but miscontrolled the ball frank Wink

how you can even attempt to criticise him is beyond me though

LOOK AT WHAT HE HAS DONE THIS SEASON Biggrin
scored gifted goals at home, that must account for at least two thirds of them

    3 x 10

    the big 3 0

He has scored in important games - Arsenal, chelsea, marseille, porto, inter, everton

He has hammered the $h!t teams as any good player should be doing
