Chelsea. I don't really care who gets through though, 1-0 and extra time + more bookings would do me.

Carvalho is a big miss, but I dont think Liverpool are skillful enough to score twice against a Chelsea that will focus on defence and look to counter. And I think Chelsea will score on a counter or a set piece. I think the other tie is much harder to call.

until today i thought chelsea. now with their title bid all but over and injuries and all, i'm going to say liverpool. they'll take an early lead through crouch. then the game will get very very cagey with few chances until a late sucker punch winner from kuyt. and john terry will cry.

judging from the first leg liverpool will have the ball but wont be dangerous. besides gerrard i cant see where they threat is going to come from. im cheering for liverpool but i cant see them winning unless they get some lucky goal.

only way i will think pool will win is if essien, drogba or cech get injured. with all those millions mourinho has spent anyone can come off the bench and fill in properly. Those three are the only "untouchables" in my book

I definitely would love to see that. The noveau-rich (spelling?) of Chelsea against the European pedigree of Milan. Chelsea's players have never gotten that far (if they get there) but Mourinho's psychological preparation is superb. And Milan have all the experience in the world, plus a desire to make up for the collapse against Liverpool in 2005.

Chelsea would destroy Milan, they are the best set piece team in the world and Milan are one of the worst, just above Barcelona. We could easily have scored on 2 corners last tuesday and are only really threat is Ronaldo. Drogba, Terry and Carvahlo would have a field day. Also Maka and Essien would take care of Kaka, so attacking wise they would be ineffective.
I think Chelsea will get to the final, as I cant see pool scoring 3 goals as Chelsea will score. I hope whoever progresses from the united/Milan tie win the competition.

A football match is not a sequence of setpieces. There's so many ifs and buts and silly "will happen" statements in the posts above that it's pointless going into more detail.
Same goes for everyone so confidently saying "Chelsea WILL score" and "Liverpool WILL NOT score 3". This is football, making such bold statements will only lead to embarrassment 9/10 times.

It will be Liverpool knocking long balls to Crouch and Chelsea knocking long balls to Drogba.
Which ever defence copes best with the oppositions main striker will win the game IMO.

'Will happen' statements are based on history, Ok you can never be 100% certain, but if someone repeatedly does something in a situation, the chances are they will do the exact same thing again if the same situation arises. Milan conceded two goals against Bayern from a set piece/punt in the box, conceded 1 on tuesday (should have been 2) from a set piece. They have been pretty bad at set pieces in Seri A according to the Seri A followers as well.
Chelsea are the best (one of) teams at scoring from set pieces, so if you put one team who are very good at them, against a team who concede alot of goals from them, logic suggests Chelsea will do well against them. Obviously in football there is no absolute or true certainty, but I would be willing to put money on Chelsea scoring a set piece, if they played Milan.

But Milan can easily adapt their style to avoid conceding free kicks and corners (less so for the latter). Obviously this is not as tangible as I make it sound, and can be changed by diving (eg. Drogba ) but it's a possibility.

I think Liverpool will, 3-1, 2 up, then Chelsea will get one back and then Gerrard will score in the 88th minute.
Told you.
Told you.

Wouldn't agree, Bolton dominated us from set pieces yesterday.

Milan are no Bolton S4P , their main strength is their midfield and I can see Chelsea dominating that , also Drogba would be a big factor.

I was just saying that Bolton dominated the set pieces yesterday, which proves we're not the best set-piece team around.

yeah in fairness though we were without Drogba for the first half which makes a massive difference for setpieces, esp. defensively. Also no Ballack for the whole game and no Carvalho for most of it.
We scored from a set-piece anyway yesterday. Just stupid to let in 2.

they have scored one goal in five CL matches against us yet people keep coming out with this as if it's a fact that chelsea will score
we could easily win the match 1-0 and win on penalties
we could easily win the match 2-0 and go straight through
chelsea could easily score 1 or 2 and give us no hope
the tie is still very much in the balance, especially now carvalho is out
