Post by toon h Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:00 am

before anyone starts having a go. I'm not a Man U fan in the slightest and not English either.
I do think he is one of the most exciting and talented players out there at the moment. He should definitely be in there. He is a match decider, and IMHO a better player than for example Riquelme.

Has great vision, a subtle touch for such a big man, great physique, speed, goals, passes, assists, breaks open games with a touch of genius. He has it all.

The only question is: is it too early?

And again, someone will have to explain to me how to make a poll out of it.

When you start writing the post, below the text box, there is the poll section - you just fill that bit out if you want to do a poll... its pretty simple Wink

    ----------------------------------------------------

Rooney is not World Class yet but IMO he's very close.

A good season in the CL and in my eyes he will be (by good I mean semi finals and scoring and assisting through - say 5 goals, 5 assists)

    No, not yet.

Still great to watch though and he has the potential to be.

COTE gerrard slightly ahead of rooney but imho neither a WC yet on the premice that its the top 25 players, too many seem to have forgotten how bad english players were in the WC when they didn´t have foreign imports to help them out. English footballers are not as good as many would like to believe

For club its debatable, probably Gerrard is in front.

For country its not even close, Rooney is alot more important.

If Rooney isn't World class, then imo Gerrard isn't World class either.

let's be honest. There IS a lot of bias in the voting system. How come Xabi Alonso got so many votes? Is he really better than Lampard? How come the football pundits don't see that? Or for that matter, the coaches, the football critics and such that voted for Lampard in the Golden Ball and Footballer of the Year awards... Or maybe we just think we know best.

Alonso got 25 votes, 13 saying yes, 12 saying no.

& there are about 8 Liverpool regulars on here plus 110 %.

I think Alonso is a great player, however not World class for me.

probably not the best example to use toon h with lamps... I personally think alonso has more talent in his little toe than lampard has altogether. most of us spend all day criticising the press/critics so obviously our list is going to differ... the best way to capture all the differing opinions is a poll.. is there bias in it because most of us are from the UK... maybe but i prefer to think most of us are sensible enough to make our own minds up.. the fact that only one english player and 6 from the prem (2 who have never played in it before) have made the list surely shows there is little bias involved although frank here is determined to think otherwise Wink

    Rooney - no.

Maybe in a few years. As of now he has done nothing of interest at all in the CL (since Fenerbahce). Not very good internationally since Euro2004 either.

Are we going to have this everytime there's a vote?

If a player some people don't like gets in it'll just be "club bias" "silly englanders" etc.

Steven Gerrard has scored in 3 seperate finals. He's captained a Champions League winning side, scoring 2 of the most important goals along the way. He's scored 2 and assisted once in an FA cup final.

...What more do you want from him? So he doesn't perform for England - Funny how England were unbeaten pre-lampard whenever Gerrard played then. Lemmie guess... it was Scholes. It always seems to be on this messageboard Rolling Eyes

9 goals in 47 England appearences is poor for an attacking midfielder, but how often has he played there? I'm sure most people would be raving about Gattuso or Makelele if they "chipped in with a goal" more than once in every 5 games.

The bitterness and paranoia on this site really worries me. You don't want a player in...so you start a vote. When that goes against you, it's rigged Rolling Eyes
