The EMB World Class List Update Empty The EMB World Class List Update

Post by Tweesus Tue May 08, 2007 11:29 am

Right, for those of you that remember, we tried to draw up a list of those players that we felt were world class. Seems as its likely to be a slow day, I thought it might be about time to give this list a bit of updating. We left it as:

    1. Ronaldinho
    2. Ronaldo
    3. Deco
    4. Riquelme - voted in 20-13
    5. Totti
    6. Kaka
    7. Buffon
    8. Cannavaro
    9. Thuram
    10. Nesta
    11. Henry
    12. Makelele
    13. Shevchenko
    14. Cech - voted in 8-2
    15. Ballsack
    16. Gerrard - voted in 17-12
    17. Marquez - voted in 13-6
    18. Nedved
    19. Xavi
    20. Pirlo -voted in 15-10
    21. Casillas
    22. Eto'o
    23. Zambrotta
    24. Peter Crouch

Expressly voted out: Adriano (1-19), RVN (8-11), Klose (10-24), Cocu (6-17), Lampard (6-25), Figo (11-14), Vieira (9-13), Xabi Alonso (12-13)

    ============================

If you feel a player should be taken off, you can put them up for nomination in a poll thread, likewise you can do this if you want someone added and after three days of voting, the results are taken and the player is either added or taken off the list. The vote obviously has to be as agenda free as possible Ale

Looking at the present list, I think arguements could be made for taking off Cannavaro, Thuram, Henry, Makalele, Shevchenko, Nedved and Peter Crouch

I'm shocked that Drogba wasn't on there! Yikes he must be added IMO. Rooney also could possibly argue his corner in this. Scholes and Essien are also musts to be added IMO. Villa could also warrant a spot.

    So get suggesting ok

I'm guessing because he was top scorer for that season in all comps. He'd scored about 9 international goals.

to be fair, I kind of think he may still deserve to be there, maybe its just me being a bit sentimental but he has had another impressive season for Liverpool. If you don't want him there, make a poll Wink

Zambrotta based on this season also doesn't warrant a place in there, though I'm not sure about polling it. the Italian contingent are bound to all vote yes

    2. Ronaldo.

Is that Brazilian or Portugese? As if it's Brazilian, then C Ronaldo needs to be included.

No, i'm sorry .. he may have had 'x' amount of goals for England towards the end of last season and the start of this one ..

If Rafa is reluctant to start him in games .. then why should we question him ..

Crouch is a good player dont get me wrong , but he has not reached this 'level' yet ..

btw, the term 'World Class' is used far too much these days , these players are more

i define the term as ' a individual whose own style of play, leadership qualities inspires his team to success whether it be winning trophies or games on a regular basis' some of these players have not been doing this

you could also have 'World Class' players in the BIG games .. i.e. Gerrard + Kaka , 2 to name but a few

Both have had poor seasons, although Henry's is a result of injuries. I personally wouldn't take either off but I could see how cases could be made

Yeah, thats pretty ridiculous too... Marquez out, Messi in!!

But like I showed in the world squad poll on the international MB, you cannot restrict the "world class" list to 23-24 names.... there have to be at least 40 names to do it any justice.

    WC in our league,

Chelsea - Cech, Terry, Carvahilo, Essien, Drogba
Man United - Ferdinand, Scholes, Ronaldo,
    Arsenal - Gallas, Henry
    Liverpool - Gerrard, Carragher

Don't entirely agree with Carragher and may have Rooney myself but I'll get lynched for either. Very Happy

Rooney's case is very tight IMO. After all, he's supposedly had a bad season yet he's scored over 20 goals and been a major assist provider. Statistically he's been great + he's scored a few important goals: 4 in the knockouts of the CL for instance!

Tevez and Berbatov will IMO make 'the list' next season.

I also think we still need Ballack in the World Class list - he hasn't been THAT bad for Chelsea and he's chipped in with a few assists and some great passes more recently

Ballack comes close because you can still see with Germany he's as good as ever. It's just tough based on this season to include him.

    Good list ok

From Serie A, I would pick:

    Milan: Kaka, Nesta, Pirlo
    Inter: Ibrahimovic, Cambiasso, Zanetti, Stankovic
    Roma: Totti, Chivu
    Fiorentina: Toni
    Juve: Buffon

Tough calls on: Gattuso, De Rossi, Seedorf

Not too sure about Gallas tho, in your list...
