Surely it would be that AC Milan back 4

I was only about 4 y/o but i think it was

    Rossi

    Tassotti, Baresi, Costacurta, Maldini

The offside trap they worked is apprently the best ever by far.

The greatest Italian defences... let me list my top 5 for the azzurri:

    1. Italy 1990
    2. Italy 1982
    3. Italy 1970
    4. Italy 2006
    5. Italy 1994

    1. Italy 1990: The best ever?
    -------------Zenga
    Ferri - Baresi - Bergomi - Maldini

Never seen a better defence in my life, and their performance lived upto their individual reputations... They created a world record of number of minutes not scored against, that too in a world cup!! Unfortunately, the first goal they conceeded in 1990 (semi finals) knocked them out. And it was not just that they did not conceed goals, they didn't let anyone get any goal scoring opportunities...

    2. Italy 1982: The classic Italian defence!
    --------------Zoff
    Cabrini - Scirea - Bergomi - Gentile

    3. Italy 1970: The Gods of Catennacio! Attacking fullbacks, dirty CBs...
    --------------Albertosi
    Burgnich - Cera - Rosato - Facchetti

    4. Italy 2006: Legends in the making!
    -----------------Buffon
    Zambrotta - Nesta - Cannavaro - Grosso

    5. Italy 1994: The Milanese threesome, their success is well known.
    -----------------Pagluica
    Bennarivo - Baresi - Costacurta - Maldini
