Re: Who is Rafa's mystery man?
Until Liverpool sort out their boardroom issues can't see any big signinngs. After all the owners' banks may not permit it. Nobody will sell top players to Liverpool without guarantess that they will be paid. How can Liverpool guarantee anything right now. Can't see Eto'o or Villa being sold without high price and large part of being paid up front, so Ian Rush it is!

PARRY DISMISSES NEWSPAPER CLAIMS
Rick Parry today rejected claims in The Times newspaper that Liverpool would be forced to sell Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel.
"The story in Friday's Times newspaper was garbage," said the Reds' chief executive.
"I want to make it clear in the simplest and most straightforward terms that the purchases of Fernando and Ryan were funded in the same way as every other transfer.
"The scope for any other interpretation is nil."

Re: Who is Rafa's mystery man?
Secondly no player under contract could agree to join Liverpool without putting in a transfer request and it being agreed. If Rafa has has agreed transfers with any of the players still under contract and not ones who can leave for free at the end of the season then they have been tapped up and the book should be thrown at Liverpool. Just what they need right now.

Cotr, not saying Liverpool have to sell anyone. What I was suggesting is they can't buy anyone until their financial situation is settled.

As I understand it, clubs can arrange transfers whenever they like, but the players can only move during the window.
If that's the case then Liverpool could (unlikely) have made a serious deal already, but the player can't move until the window opens.

The fact that it's an English speaker indicates to me that it's probably someone from the Premiership, or maybe a Dutch player

To answer Batman's question about Alonso, he'll be off in the summer IMO, he's lost it here in England for me, I'd take 10 mil or more and get in Gareth Bazza.

David Beckham is rumoured for a shock return to the Prem. Not wanting to get another boot in the face he is looking to pool to rescue him from obscurity in the MLS.

Point was regarding approaching players who are under contract. You can't agree transfer with player under contract unless club he is contracted to agree to sell. I very much doubt that Barca has agreed to sell Eto'o, or Valencia Villa for example, or Man United Rooney.

EMP, clubs often give permission to players agents to sell them or agree deals. For example Ronaldinho's agent may have a signed letter saying he can talk to clubs who are prepared to offer £Xm.

Re: Who is Rafa's mystery man?
Fair enough Glenn, but like I said it has to be with permission of club he is under contract to. That's my point. Can't see Barca or Valencia agreeing to sell yet. Ronaldinho yes, but not Eto'o and with Villa, Valencia would be crazy to shop him. If he wants to go then he has to put in a transfer request so Vlencia get maximum value. It makes no sense for either Barca or Valencia to shop Villa or Eto'o. Same goes for Man United regarding Rooney. Why we would any of them want to sell and even if they did, why choose Liverpool when they can't even be sure you can afford it?

The line missing from the quote luis posted is that this senior player is cheap which rules out almost all mentioned names

Re: Who is Rafa's mystery man?
He thinks it means Liverpool will get Villa. Still won't be going to Liverpool. If relegated Valencia will probably cash in but Liverpool won't have money. Really annoying thing is Liverpool probably don't neeed him anyway. Either that or he is being an obnoxious twat.

Maybe he's just joking.
The current formation is working wonders, Kuyt and Crouch are decent enough back up strikers and the Gerrard / Torres partenership is brilliant. No, we don't need Villa, we need wingers / creative wide players.
Anyway, i bet it's Heinze.
