I say Spain because for me they're the most talented squad. They probably won't win the tournament, but for the aforesaid reason, I'm going with them.

2 points though:
1: Spain have always had an extremely talented squad, but it hasn't got them far. I don't see why this year should be any different. In fact, i rate the team with Raul, Morientes, Hierro, Guardiola, Luis Enrique etc. higher than this one.
2. International football is more about who plays better as a team rather than individual talent. The players and the coaches don't have much time together, so which team gels the most effectively plays a crucial part.

Well, I'm not keen on placing too much emphasis on historical precedence. These are (by and large) a different set of players, and the (perceived) failures of past teams and past players, shouldn't in any way effect the way this current team performs.
Additionally, I think Spain do play as a team. They play good football, and don't play like a team of individuals. They played good football in the WC, and were edged out by a good French side. No shame or disgrace in that.

I remember that game very well. Denmark played their best we had done for along time outplaying spain at their own game(passing) and then we lost a man and they turned the game around. im still not convinced of Spain because of the way they reacted against France in the world cup. they had played nice but only agains weak teams untill that game. none of their passing was particular good and they got hit on the counter.Khadrim wrote:Surely the problem with spain is in the head. They are the european version of Argentina. Numerous overated players Joaquin, Vicente, Alonso, Xavi, Puyol and more. Usually always without fail f@ck it up on the big occasion.
But people who judge football by individuals and certain criteria's will always fail to get the whole picture. Still you cant completly rule them out while Casillas is in goal.
If they actually played the players who have had a very good season ie Cesc ahead of Xavi and Torres starting, then they'd have more of a chance. But they seem a bit biased towards the players playing in Spain.

I don't get this Gomez hype... Ze Jarmans blame us for hyping our players while Ze Jarmans are the worst... Gomez scored a few goals in a minor league and suddenly he will be topscorer at euro 2008!

13 european teams get in the world cup compared to 16 in the euros. losing 3 weaker european teams but gaining Brazil, Argentina, Peru, etc. means World Cup has gotta be stronger overall - even if you're more likely to get easier games early on.
