I don't think he's played centre-back, well at least for us. The fact that Bayer didn't offer him a contract extension tells me that maybe they though he was already past it.

It's funny, Sunderland, a team that hasn't won a trophy for years pictures their new signings infront of an empty Trophy cabinet. And Lyon, a team that has won one of the most trophies in recent history puts their new signing infront of a Billboard.

Cesc Soler wrote:Lyon sign Frederic Piquionne from Monaco
Is this the striker that FlyingFrenchman said Lyon needed for this season?
Lyon wanted to buy him two years ago, but at that time he was playing for St Etienne which is the rival club for Lyon (Lyon and St Etienne being separated by a few miles). There was an outgoing story between the two presidents and Piquione ended up being sold to Monaco because he said he no longer wanted to play for St Etienne. After a disappointing year at Monaco he was sold to Lyon. He will certainly warm the bench and come in time to time. The good thing is that he plays differently than Benzema and Fred which have the same style. Baros should now be sold.
Like every year the president and the club announce great players and none of them are purchased. This year Eto'o and Milito, Saha were possible targets and none of them wanted to come.
I am a bit disapointed having him rather than Saha or Milito (Eto'o was a mirage) but he will add quality on the bench.
Furthermore, Puel is more likely to use one striker (Benzema) so the bench will now look great :Delgado, Bodmer, Piquionne, Kallstrom, Boumsong, Ederson. The quality of the bench will be the difference between Lyon and his main competitors this season.

Ajax want baglia
New manager Marco van Basten is happy with the new signings so far, but
wants to add one extra defender and one more midfielder to his squad.
Anderlecht midfielder Biglia is top of Van Basten's list, according to
reports.
Anderlecht's ability to hold on to their star players
will be significantly diminished after their early Champions League
exit. In fact, Argentinean midfielder Lucas Biglia has already been
transfer listed in order to raise funds.
Ajax are monitoring
the situation of El Principito closely, but the Belgium side are only
letting him go if the price is right. “Nobody is leaving for a price
below our asking price,” said Anderlecht sporting director Herman van
Holsbeeck.
The 22-year-old playmaker signed for Anderlecht in
2006 from Argentinean side Independiente and also played for Argentinos
Juniors. His contract with Anderlecht expires in 2012.
Biglia
is also linked with French side Paris Saint Germain and Spanish team
Racing Santander. Sources suggest Anderlecht want €7million for their
midfielder.
If he is anything like the kid that along with Gago Marshaled the Argentina midfield to U-20 success, he will be a great signing.

He's good but not that good.
Clever passing, and good on the ball, but as slow as f@ck and poor defencively. A luxury player in someways. Could work well in a double pivot of 4-3-3.

Re: Rest of Europe Transfer Tracker
Olympiakos finally signed Diogo Luis Santo(WOW)
An official statement on the club’s website confirmed the signing: “Olympiakos announces the completion of the signing of Brazilian striker Diogo Luis Santo, who has signed a five year contract with the club.”
The arrival of Diogo will be a welcome boost for Olympiakos manager Ernesto Valverde, who has experienced a fairly slow summer recruitment drive, particularly in contrast to that of previous incumbent Panagiotis Lemonis last season.
Whether Diogo’s fitness levels are high enough to warrant consideration for selection in Olympiakos’ squad for the ucopming second-leg of their UEFA Champions League Qualifier against Anorthosis Famagusta is a different story altogether and some within the football sphere might see Diogo’s capture as an attempt to claw back qualification for the lucrative group stages.

Zenit Sign Danny Alves For €30m
Zenit St Petersburg have smashed the Russian transfer record with a €30million deal for Portuguese midfielder Danny from Dynamo Moscow, but denied that the 25-year-old is a replacement for want away star Andrei Arshavin.
Zenit manager Dick Advocaat was eager to laud the arrival of Danny, a player the Dutchman believes to be among the best performers in the Russian league.
He told UEFA.com: "We've been interested in Danny for a while now. I consider him the best midfielder in the Russian league and he can become a very useful member of our team. I see Danny as an attacking midfielder or winger."
Danny had been at Dynamo since 2005 after he signed from Sporting Lisbon, and made 97 league appearances for the Moscow outfit, scoring 16 goals.
The fee involved in the transfer easily outweighs the €16million that Dynamo themselves paid for Danny’s compatriot Maniche in 2005, the previous Russian transfer record.
Dynamo were prompted to negotiate a deal involving Danny, after Zenit met the release clause in the player's contract.
Zenit have not disclosed the details of the player’s contract, who featured in the Moscow derby against Spartak on Saturday.
Dick Advocaat was eager to dispel suggestions that Danny is a ready-made replacement for Andrei Arshavin, and stated that the Russian playmaker’s future is still unresolved.
He said: "No, because Andrei is still with Zenit, and I am still not sure if he is going away." Zenit will contest the European Supercup this Friday in Monaco against Manchester United, by virtue of their UEFA Cup win last season.
