I'm not sure. I hope he's not gone completely Nuno Gomes on me: simply a 'name' player that no longer has any of the qualities that got him that status to begin with.

A couple of years ago, when he came back to Portugal, I would have been happy with the deal... now I'm not sure (althought I'm not unhapy) - could be good, or it could be a total flop. We've apparently given up a junior player, Diogo Viana, which I'm not happy about. I guess the directors are expecting Postiga to do well enough that we won't mind seeing one of ours playing for Porto again.

I'll have to wait and see how he does in the Euro and give him a real chance during pre-season. I think it could be a good move for both sides, it has the potetnial to be, but I don't think anyone is convinced just yet.

I do like the fact that it wasn't in the papers. We didn't hear about it until he had already signed. He's Portuguese and I think it could be a good move, so overall I'm intrigued and slightly excited to see what Postiga can do for us... we know what he's capable of we just need to get him there. A positive move in theory, we'll see if it works out in a practicle sense.

Looks like many of the Sporting suporters are not at all happy with this deal. The fact we've let Diogo Viana move to Porto is seen by many as a catastrophy, Viana being in the mold of Sporting's great wingers and being considered the best U-18 player in Portugal.

Seems Sporting has potentially once again fucked its fans by making another bullshit move. f@ck I hope these people are wrong, but there's obviously a reason why Porto wanted to take him off our hands...

Finally we get rid of Postiga and his high wages and Cr@p perfomances. I don´t know if he will perform at Sporting but at Porto he was pretty much Cr@p in the last years.

Viana is a winger. Apparently a very good one who uses both feet; recently selected as the MVP at an international tourney for U-18 in Portugal (he is a Sporting junior afterall).

Of course, there are pleny of examples of good juniors that are Cr@p seniors... so let's hope Diogo is another in that long list (as far as Porto goes that is, I'd like him to play well for Portugal however).

The first when we won the UEFA cup and sold him to Spurs.
The first half of one of the last seasons when he scored about 10/15 (not sure how many) goals then he scored 1 or 2 in the rest of the season.

It is not because we sold him to you guys, i do belive he is Cr@p and many Porto fans used feel the same. Many like him too and do not like to see him go so it is not unanimous.

I think he is the eternal hot youth player that you belive he will be great but never really fullfills the expectations. Of course i can´t say if he will be great for you but we'll see.

I am curious about the youngster though i do not know him to be honest and i am sure he will be loan. We do have several hot prospects but we always end up buying more than playing our youths so i am curious about what the manager/board thinks about him.

Above all if he is that good i am surprised you let him go... for a rival.

I'm only passing on what I've read, as there has been concern from sportinguistas about letting Viana go, but I personally haven't ever seen him play.

There have, however, been those that have said the move is extremely bad for Sporting considering we let this kid go...and especially to Porto. I don't know if you'll loan him, I've read he'll be still be a junior for you, I guess that depends on how fast you want him to make the jump to the senior team.

Postiga is as you've said a hot/cold player, but I can remember wishing we had him and thinking our market being what it is wouldn't let such a move take place... guess I was wrong. He does blow hot/cold, but I think he's always shown plenty of grit and passion which fits in well with Bento's Sporting. Yes, he completely disapeared on you guys during that quick-start season, and I'm wondering if that had something to do with the relationship between him and the manager?

He's Portuguese, still young and has plenty of talent that needs to be brought out - we've done much worse in the past so this should be a step in the right direction. A good move in theory I think as I mentioned, and again the way it was conducted couldn't have been any better

(if there's anything to add, we should do so on the Liga thread... ).

Ajax are set to smash the Dutch transfer record to land Heerenveen star Miralem Sulejmani.



The Serbian striker, who has been linked with Chelsea amongst others, now looks to be heading to Amsterdam.


The 19-year-old is valued at 18 million (£14.2million) and Ajax are set to match that fee in order to land the youngster.


Ajax and Heerenveen already hold the Dutch transfer record when those two clubs struck a deal worth 9million euros for Klaas Jan Huntelaar in 2005.


Now Ajax, who have also launched a raid for Boca Juniors defender Jonatan Maidana, are set to offer Sulejmani a five-year deal to move to the Amsterdam Arena.


"If Heerenveen and Ajax reach an agreement, and as I understand it will be quick, I will get on the plane to Amsterdam," agent Jovica Radonjic told De Telegraaf.


"Miralem will become a player of Ajax quickly."

Samaras should go to Werder. The most interesting league of the three. And despite Fener, Besiktas and Galatasaray being very good club, the Bundesliga is by far the most competitive of the 3 mentioned.

Want-away Lille midfielder Jean Makoun admits it will be a 'dream come true' if he joins French champions Lyon.

The clubs have agreed a fee of around 15million euros (£11.8million) for the defensive midfielder, according to L'Equipe.

The Cameroonian international will sign a four year contract to join ex team-mates Kader Keita and Mathieu Bodmer at Lyon, while his Lille boss Claude Puel is also thought to be on the move to the French champions.

Makoun told skysports.com:" Nothing is done yet, however the club have agreed the transfer fee, the medical will be done and after that we will see, fingers crossed there should not be a big problem.

"It is a big challenge, I am joining the best team in France, it is a dream come true. I wanted to get back into the Champions League and there I am.

"I am looking forward to next season. It is sad to leave Lille but I have to move and win trophies and play in the big stage - there is no bigger stage in France than Lyon."

Quality player

I'm very very happy we've signed him, he's an excellent defensive Midfield player, one of the best in France for sure. Lyon need to buy a defender (LB) and a striker.

We bought lots of new players which are not world class yet but might become. We are doing a bit like Wenger. Puel is a very good manager, much better Perrin. The future looks bright for Lyon.

Rangers have clinched the signing of Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty for a fee in excess of £3million.

Northern Ireland international Lafferty, 20, has signed a five-year contract with the Scottish Cup and CIS Insurance Cup holders.

The deal went through despite Alan Gow's move to Burnley remaining in the balance. The Rangers forward, whose move was initially part of a part-exchange for Lafferty, has still not agreed the terms of his move to Turf Moor.



Lafferty had also been interesting Celtic but they failed to agree a fee with Coca-Cola Championship side Burnley for the highly-rated youngster. Wolves were also keen but were also outbid.

He becomes the third striker to agree a summer move to Rangers, and the most expensive.

Kenny Miller clinched an Ibrox return last week in a £2million switch from Derby, and former Hearts forward Andrius Velicka will return to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League after Rangers agreed a fee of around £1million with Viking Stavanger for the Lithuanian. That deal will be completed next month.

Lafferty is relishing his move to Rangers and admitted he thought the chance had passed him by.

He told www.rangers.co.uk: "I'm delighted to be here. The move has been a long time in coming and I'm thrilled to be at the club at last.

"When I heard Rangers were looking at me, I really wanted to join them but there was a point when I thought they had lost interest.

"I heard nothing from them so I was worried the move wouldn't happen and I was delighted when my agent rang me to say Burnley had accepted the bid for me.

"Hopefully I can now show the fans what I can do on the pitch. All of my mates and family are big Rangers fans so they're pleased I'm at the club now."

Lafferty only scored five league goals for Burnley last season but he is considered one of Northern Ireland's hottest prospects in years and will challenge the likes of Kris Boyd, Jean-Claude Darcheville and Nacho Novo, plus his two fellow new boys, for a place in Walter Smith's Rangers attack next season.

He admits it was the night of the UEFA Cup final which convinced him he should sign for Rangers, if the opportunity came up.

"I was at the final in Manchester and the atmosphere there was incredible," he said.

"That helped me make up my mind that I wanted to play for Rangers. The fans were amazing then and playing in Europe is a big attraction for me.

"I want to play at that level and I'm being offered that here."



(reopens) Gow has been in discussions with Burnley since Tuesday about the move south, which initially looked to constitute an essential part of the deal for Lafferty.

However Gow has been hesitant to commit to the Clarets, with financial aspects of the move believed to be holding up the move.

Tonight Burnley set a deadline of midnight on Thursday, June 26 for his transfer to go through.

Rangers have paid an initial £3million to Burnley for Lafferty, smashing the Lancashire club's transfer record, and will pay a further £250,000 depending on appearances.

Burnley will also take 10% of any profit Rangers make should they sell Lafferty in the future, while Gow remains linked to the deal.

He will switch club as part of the Lafferty transfer if he can agree terms, however Rangers will pay an undisclosed additional fee to Burnley if the deal for the 25-year-old Scotland B forward collapses.

Gow joined Rangers from Falkirk last summer but made just two appearances, in cup games against East Stirling and East Fife.

Makoun is quality, Lyon have done it again, although 15m is hardly a bargain.

They've got eight central midfielders at the moment and are trying to get rid of them. I was just wondering whether Maduro is one of those.

A poor move by Porto IMO. I personally dislike like him immensely, he's a Milan Baros type of attacker.

I wonder if they bought him for squad depth or because they're expecting to lose Lisandro Lopez or one of their other strikers.

He played at Benfica last year, loaned from PSG i think. Acording to the press they tried to sign him but Porto offered more.

Not sure how true all this is but with the press one never knows. I guess some kind of retaliation would happen after the CL problem but acording to people he might prove usefull. To be honest i don´t know him well appart from a great goal i saw him scoring last year.

Yep. He can plays on the left, for Uruguaym or as an attacking midifielder. He's a tenacious player that just runs and runs.
