for the final round of games...good for germany probably..as far as i can see if poland would have won even a german win in the last game might not have meant they qualify...or am i missing something?

means that germany can pass with a draw even if poland win against croatia as their head to head is better
the only way for germany to go out is if austria beat them

and if poland would have won then even a german win might not have meant they finished second?
poland beat croatia in the last game then croatia..poland and germany have 6 points...who would have gone through?

if poland croatia and germany all got three points then germany would have been always at least second in the group because they won with 2-0 in the first game
Conclusion a germany win would have been enough for them to progress...

say poland beat croatia by 3 goals...what would have happened then?
all 3 have 6 points...germany beat poland..croatia beat germany..poland beat croatia...would goal difference then count?

If Poland would have beaten Croatia with , let say 4-1, Germnay won only with 1-0 .... Poland would have won the group, Germany second Croatia would have gone home....
Poland 3-6 5-3
Germany 3-6 4-2
Croatia 3-6 4-5
Poland 3-6 5-3
Germany 3-6 4-2
Croatia 3-6 4-5

So that last minute penalty for Austria was really to help the Germans ?

Yes there are the many conurtations if austria hadn't scored but they did so now it comes down to this: it doesn't matter at all if poland win and how many they win by, if Germany get a draw they are through as their head to head is better.
Unfortunately Austria could beat germany and still go out on goal difference to poland if they should beat croatia by a certain goal difference.
For the way the teams in the group have played up to this point Austria deserve to go through. Unfortunately they don't have good strikers, but fortunately german have a lemon in goal.

Re: what does that austria goal mean?
At the end of the day 1-1 or 1-0? It doesn't make that much difference...
Those stupid theoretically options are quite unrealistic and with the 1-1 Austria have a much better chance to progress than in the other situation.
They also got a moral boost from Howard Webb last night so they probably give Germany a harder game than in the other situation....
But please guys let's stick with the reality...
Germany and Croatia are ten times better than Austria and Poland... So in reality Germany and Croatia were already through before the tourney started!
BTW in the 1-0 situation Germany could have gone through with a loss while now they are 100% out if tha't happens...
