Have the previous tournaments really been that bad?
It's been good, but I can't see why this would be classed as an exceptional tournament at the moment.

I didn't say the previous tournaments have been that bad. If you feel the WC2006 was as good or better, you just say WC2006 and say that there were at least 12 memorable games there. I think the last Wc had few memorable games, the EC2006 was OK but nothing special, the WC2002 was poor overall, the EC2000 was very good, Wc1998 fairly good, EC1996 good, WC1994 had very good games but some disappointing ones as well, EC1992 poor in general, WC2000 quite poor, EC1988 was OK, and that the WC 1986 was the best tournament I have seen.
this tournament is very good and I don't think there have been truly better ones since 1986. Perhaps 2000 comes closest.

I would say 2000 was better in terms of football being played. we need a great match in the quarters because the ones so far have been good(Portugal-Germany) boring but exciting(Croatia-Holland) and Intense but greatly entertaining( Russia-Holland). If we get a classic tomorrow with Spain-Italy then we are on our way to a great tournament.

Still have to wait to the end.
2000 was really great because there was so much drama and the 2 semi finals and the final were classics IMO.

This is definitely one of the best tournaments ever, for me the best Euro in my lifetime. Quite a few high quality football matches, a lot of drama, excitement, surprises and brilliant goals.
Before the tournament, I said that I expect international football to be back with a bang, and I'm very glad that I was proven right. Nothing beats international tournaments.

this is probably the best tournament of ALL TIME
overall
no one or two teams have dominated
even the outsiders have produced spectacular stuff (Turkey's comebacks, Russia's destruction of Holland...)
there must have been up to 10 teams that all looked like possible winners at one stage
some brilliant goals
very high goal per game average as well
fantastic stuff

Completely agree about 90 and 98. I didn't think Euro 96 was that bad. Euro 2000 was really good as well.
I'd say this is the best tournament since Euro2000 because the last two World Cups have been a bit underwhelming for me and Euro 2004 wasn't very good either.

I would definitely agree with all that. 2000 also had a great generation of players which i enjoyed watching. Also, the final in 2000 was one of the best finals you'll ever see and the 2 semi finals were full of drama and very exciting. In the group stage you also had some awesome matches like Yugoslavia - Slovenia, England - Portugal, England-Romania, Spain-Yugoslavia etc.

In euro 96, most of the KO matches were a bit dissapointing apart from England - Germany which was a true classic.
Euro 2004 would've been good if Greece hadn't ruined it.

England-France perhaps...although I remember watching that one in bed.
Anyway even though the GAS nations tried to ruin everything and we started of with some real Cr@p matches. Until Holland-Italy!
Since then it has been a pretty good tourny, I say the best since 2000!

If Germany win, it's the fourth worst tournament ever.
If Spain win, it's the best tournament since 1996.
