Andy Cole would have retired if not allowed to move Empty Andy Cole would have retired if not allowed to move

    Post by Sgoater1 Wed Sep 06, 2006 12:38 am

Yet another sign that players are becoming ot big for their boots. Yesterday the rumours surrounded Gallas, claiming he said he would score an own goal if not allowed to move. Now it appears Andy Cole was willing to retire if not allowed to move to Pompey and a £40k a week contract. Were is the loyalty in football?

There is not a lot of loyalty in the game these days.

Andy Cole is a seasoned pro and should no better than act in an immature way over a contract and proposed move. Man City gave him a very good chance to revive his career and this is how the club is repaid pathetic. There are only a handful of players that I have genuine respect for, because you know they are loyal to the club and will never tarnish the clubs reputation.

On your part it may be a kick in the teeth but think of it like this you have a decent wage earner off your books and with Vassell, Samaras and Corradi you already have a good strike force. It may give an opportunity for someone like Sturridge to progress further.

As an Arsenal fan I am slightly dissapointed in Gallas, hopefully Wenger can get him to stop all this nonsense surrounding Chelsea.

Lets get back the the football on the pitch please..........

Yeah i hope the Gallas one is untrue and that no footballer who make such threats.

Cole is obviously just greedy and wants £40k a week, despite what we did for him. Now Vassell is injured its a bit of a blow but like you say we still have Samaras and Corradi and Miller to fall back on. Danny Sturridge has a squad number and if the need came to play him it would be very exciting to see the lad in the Premiership.

Do you feel animosity towards him now sgoater.

Its never nice when stuff like this comes out after a transfer - I'm expecting Reyes to dish the dirt on Arsenal at some point.

Truly loyal footballers are a real rarity in the modern game

so Gallas has done nothing wrong in all this and behaved in the most gentlemen like and appropriate manner?

    @ sgoat

Completely agree with you man. Players are just getting greedier and greedier and threatening to take action if they don't get their own way. No loyalty whatsoever.

Yeah he is luck we have already played Pompey at home this season or else he would get one hell of a reception. We showed lots of loyalty to him offering him a new contrct even though he missed half the season with injury, then once he is back to full fitness he does this. Cole is scum, sub-human scum as Alan Partridge would say.

Although i would like ot know how Redknapp conducted himself as he isnt alowed to speak to the player or agent unless we say so, i think he must have tapped up Cole. It is obvious it was made clear to Cole how much financially he would benefit with a move to Pompey or why else would he move when he had come back to Manchester partly because his family like living up north.

He only has 2 years left, unlikely to be a pundit coach or manager, gotta get more money while it is possible. I can understand from his point of view.

He has been on massive wages of £30k a week minimum (more at U*d) for last 10 years so im guessing he isnt short of a few bob.

His agent has denied the retirement threat but why would Pearce, the most honest guy in football make such a claim.

Still an extra 10k a week over 2 years adds up to a lot of money, even if you got 5 mill in the bank.
A bit out of order if he threatened to retire.

Why should he not be allowed to move where he wants to? Surely there is a problem at the club if he has to issue a threat in order to move?

Simple, because he signed a contract. I doubt you'll see it like that if it was a Man U player behaving like this.

Players cant just decide to up and leave when they want to when they have signed a contract. How would you feel if Rooney just said im going to Chelsea or else i will retire ?

We showed loyalty to him and he should have shown some back. There cant have been any problem as he onlt signed a new contract a few months ago, but there are 40,000 reasons a week why a move to Pompey might appeal.

What is wrong with you people? Because he is on contract which he signed. It's a legally binding document. If the club reneged on it and stopped paying his wages just because they felt like it he'd be off squealing like a stuck pig to the PFA and the courts. The trouble is the Bosman ruling has given the players the opportunity to hold the clubs to ransom and it is becoming increasingly evident the depths they are stooping to.
